18% increase in my annual home insurance because 'this is what it is' ... WTF.

They increased the home MINIMUM from 2M to 3M because 'this is the new policy at your address....we can't reduce to 2M because fun'. I tried to force them to lower it to 2M...nope. Sorry. No can do. F-U.

I knew they were crooks but this is insane. F TD. I'll be looking for a new insurer thanks to this ****. Been with them for decades.

Any recommendations for others? Because this is frustrating to no end.

(I didn't put this in the insurance thread because this isn't specific to motorcycles).

I have a good contact for cooperators. ill.mesage you

They increased my coverage but dropped the premium 15% because 'of my loyal customer status'...

So my payment went down $5/month and my minimum went up to $1M.

I'm still ******. Send me the co-operators contact.

Our home is insured with TD. We had a neighbor’s tree fall on our house during the Victoria Day Weekend storm that passed through the GTA in 2022. It took them just over a year (and three missed appointments with their contractor) to show up to start the repairs and almost another year to complete the work. Two years in total. On top of that they had the nerve to tell us that we had to pay for their engineer to come back to sign off on the structural repairs they did without permits or inspections. A quick call to the Town Of Whitby Building Department fixed that. They also replaced a third of our metal roof that was damaged with roofing that does not match the rest of the house and refused to do the rest to make it match. I was very, very disappointed in the service that I recieved to say the least.

I have Belair Direct for home and auto. Not the cheapest but they respond to claims very quickly. Downside is they don't insure motorcycles so I pay a little more for that as it's not bundled.

Td or Tdmm? As I understand it, they are distinct. What a crap experience.

My buddy went to CAA but he said they put him through the wringer. Basically had to be very specific about everything, as well as get his own abstract and driving history (?) documents to have CAA review them.

Saved $600/year.
I had to do none of that and neither did my wife. She’s very picky about that kind of stuff and even hates changing mortgage providers for much lower rates because of all the questions and documentation the lenders require.

Haven’t had to file a claim with CAA yet on either the house or cars, so don’t have any experience with that aspect.

While there's no colusion in the business Intact is doing the same to us. Explanations is pure BS.

They have postal coded our property value back to bidding war days. "Over the ground" water damage is full property value.

Burn the house down and the lot is worth a million. Are they expecting aliens to vapourize the lot?

We can reduce the premium by $300 by dropping flood damage to $50,000 in lieu of the $1.5 million. Reducing it to to a more reasonable $100K to $200K only drops the premium by $60. No optons between $100K and the postal code price. All or nothing.

IMO claims eslewhere from fires and floods have hit their pocketbooks so hard they are spreading the love. Climate change concerns about another Hurricane Hazel? (1954)

One of the problems with oligarchies is that the hurt is spread as far as the tentacles can reach. Regional businesses are more area sensitive.

Our insurance was ~$1100 and renewal was ~$1400. Checked with CAA and even with CAA plus and car insurance with them they wanted ~$1800.

We're sucking it up. Florida average is ~$11,000. Source Insurify

What happens down there if a condo owner is in a building with millions in mandated orders against it and insurance won't cover the building and the mortgage holder demands insurance coverage?

A forced sale in a dumpster fire market isn't pleasant. Somehow shovelling snow doesn't sound so bad.

We left TD last year for HeartLand for auto's and home and Bike is with Economical All together saved almost 4k a year! They tried to screw me when my 03 jetta wagon was hit, ended up getting the car non branded and $6k in pocket and fixed myself, had to fight for weeks on the phone...It does pay to shop around.

My ins in a Florida (1mile from beach at 12’ above sea level, surge evacuation zone) is $220/mo all in. It’s gone up by $80/mo since 2018. That includes my auto liability.

My car is $30/mo.
