TD Insurance rate hikes?

My most expensive quote was from State Farm.

Same here by about 700 dollars. $1900 is not as low as you can get living in Toronto at your age with a clean record. Where do some of the people around here come up with their incredible knowledge?

I know, right. That guy...

It seems you are lacking facts here. Care to show what is the lowest price full coverage for a S1000RR living in downtown Toronto? 42 clean record, bike alone new policy. Thanks

I don't recall saying that I have a bmw or that I live downtown...

I thought I would sort of add my recent experience with TD Insurance claim department ... I had a no fault claim, so I filed and must say that I was impressed how smooth, quick and pain free it was to deal with the TD, the shop they sent me to as well as their preferred rental company.

Whole process took about 3-4 weeks .... From the accident to having my car back. Car looks to me like new, no complaints with workmanship and I was surprised that it came with lifetime warranty.

Why am I saying it? Well MPS made a good point a few posts up, and I was kind of not buying it, but I can see where for car (bike would be a different ballgame for me) it probably pays off to pay a bit more, but knowing when you have a no-fault claim, that you will be quickly looked after. BTW, I did ask, the shop who deals with most insurance companies out there, which insurance company they don't deal with and why. Instantly, they said Desjardins, because they simply nickel dime and question completely everything and delay things from day one .....

So, I am not saying I will keep the cars with TD forever, but the good claim service will buy them 200-300 rate difference, I am willing to live with.

For bikes, no chance, because the bike will be either a write-off when I claim or DIY repair ... Plus the bike I ride we are talking much smaller values.

Thanks for confirming my Desjardins theorie
and you can also add Aviva to that list
9 weeks since my not at fault accident and no one has even come to the shop to look at my car
spoke a legal rep about this
and was told Aviva has a pay out freeze
so careful who you insure with now days
cheap rates maybe attractive at first
but they don't pay out later

BTW State Farm is now Desjardins/Personal

I was talking to a friend today about the Desjardins takeover of SF .... Apparently, the vehicle/moto insurance stays under SF's control .... The property and life insurance was purchased by the Desjardins group.

i hope that's the case
only way to find out is asking a shop how they deal with claims
i also think the best way to get insurance is asking shops on how insurance handles claims

No sign of SF up charging SS bikes ... this would be the first thing I would assume the new owner would pull a pin on.

this is whats on my new SF slip

Certas Home and Auto Insurance Company333 FIRST COMMERCE DRIVE / AURORA, ONTARIO, CANADA L4G 8A4NAME AND ADDRESS OF INSURANCE COMPANY / NOM ET ADRESSE DE LA COMPAGNIE D’ASSURANCE

Sounds like Certas underwrites everything, not just property and life insurance as the announcements made you believe. That would have me inquiring ... if I was a customer of SF insuring bike(s) for a reason.

With TD here as well but mine went down from $1500 to $990 with no changes to the policy itself

Sounds like you got out of age surcharge zone ... or some tickets come off .... or you moved?

Nope, this is going to be my 3rd season riding, no claims or tickets so far, though I did low side the bike on my 5th day of riding:crybaby:. This is my first vehicle, didn't even have a G license before even though I'm the high 30's.

Well, I am thinking you must have hit some sort of a reduction by their book, because a drop this large makes no sense, not for an insurance company in Ontario.

Not sure what bike you ride, but maybe the 1500$ was a rip-off to start with for your age and location ....

Ninja 250 and like I said I think the main reason I was so high in the first place was the fact that despite my age this was my first vehicle ever, hell I still don't have my G though I am starting to consider it because the bus is really getting on my nerves in the winter now.

So yeah I agree I must have hit a "Well he hasn't killed himself or anyone else in the last two years as a completely new driver so he mustn't be a complete dick" checkbox in their system.

Yeah, they ripped you off at 1500$ ... for Ninja 250, high 30's and North York location. $900 is still quite a chunk, look around ... I started in high 30's, similar small cc bike and worse location and paid half .... I did have G, but I am not sure whether that makes a huge difference.

my 250 way $334 a year as a new rider my first year
