I bought it at 5K KM.. it was a dropped bike... which explains the issues. Whoever put the bike together didn't tighten things up..

The Safety doesn't really look for the kinds of problems that my bike has.. afaik the safety cert is just a check of tire tread, lights, signals, brakes etc. Nothing to do with forks analysis.

wow.....

a safety most certainly does check your head bearings. i'll ask again, how many km have you put on it since the safety??

No Offense, but you don't know what you are talking about. A proper safety would have discovered your problem

all your triple and fork bolts were loose and it was a "dropped" bike ?
so if your forks are leaking, you can get a safety? you need to think about this a bit more.

and you've had this issue the whole time?

You gotta realize that before this bike, I had never ridden a bike before. I did always feel the front-end was loose but I attributed it to the ****** tires and the bike itself. I had no comparison. It started sinking in when I started learning more after riding harder and getting a feel for the increasing instability which was when I realized that there was no way that this is how things should be - which is when I brought it in.

I'm not asking questions about your riding experience.

What I am getting at is that if you have been having this problem since you bought the bike, whoever did the safety on it missed it. They should have caught it, and it should have been fixed prior to you ever riding it.

Absolutely. Checking for loose fasteners is a must, during inspection. I've seen people who will pass a bike that has loose footpegs, which is expressly forbidden.

Fair enough - I took it a trustworthy tech.. who even took it for a boot around the block and found no issues with it and spent his time looking over the bike carefully.

I don't know how this was missed.

Regardless Rob, lesson learning for the OP.

Buying a *dropped* bike and getting what i presume to be a blind safety done on the bike, then believing everything would be ok.

Lucky for him, he could been seriously injured if something broke/worked it's way loose while riding.

I think that the point is was trying to make, is that it doesn't serve anyone to support people who do "easy" safeties.

This is now less than questionable especially if he rode it.

Lesson learned. I sure as hell have learned a lot with this bike and will be sure not to make the same assumptions again.

Well the positive, you've seemed to have found a decent mechanic *he get's good review on this site*.

Dude, there are maintenance courses available thave would benefit you greatly I think. it's not money badly spent.

Sometimes blind certs work. Some dudes just know what to look for on a bike in terms of a safety, and just need the actual paper. Some dudes don't want to take bikes for a legit safety cuz they believe their bike to be safe and dont' want to pay for repairs needed.

Whoever certed your bike ripped you off. Who was it?

We don't know the circumstances of the inspection there is no need for a witch hunt.

Some of us are happy with crappy inspections because we can check our own bikes, the lesson from this thread is that if you need a real safety, ensure you do your research and go to a proper place.
