Tank bags...

Heya everyone, great day to ride!

I was out and about on my Gladius and on the 401 west collectors I somehow managed to blow my tank bag off. Resulting in an awkward walk to go fetch said bag as my key fob Scorpio alarm was in it and my bike was not having anyone near her.
My Glados has plastics on the side of her tank so only the forward and saddle magnets grip.

Does anyone know of a bag that would work for a metal top, plastic sided tank?

Side note: thank you to the gentleman on the BMW for rescuing me, made my day riding 2up on your bike! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1364331944.603210.jpg

My tank bag has straps that hold it down, as opposed to the magnets. Never had a problem yet, and I've done plenty of highway cruising. I believe it is a Moto Centric bag

You could also consider tank bags that mount to your gas cap - if they exist for your bike.

I was going to recommend this as well. They don't work for my CBR250RA as it doesn't have a regular flip-style cap but if it did I would have bought one. Aside from the fact it should be MUCH more secure, it doesn't touch your tank, therefore no scratches.

I have a givi v33 topcase installed. A bit pricey. Or you can try bungee cords . I bought a pack from walmart for $10 they have hooks at the end. I carried a blue recycly bin with one of them on my back seat!

I've got an 09 cbr600rr which has plastic covering the entire tank and an icon urban tank bag. Over the winter, I installed (super glued) some rare earth magnets underneath the plastic where my tank bag would make contact. Haven't tested it yet but if all else fails, I have it tethered down at the handlebar.

I would go with a quick release tank bag. Attaches to your gas cap. Super easy to use, on and off in seconds and totally secure without every touching your tank. No need to worry about scratching, or magnets holding up. A big pricier then a regular tank bag, but of better value in my opinion.

I agree, the other nice part about this system is it allows you to have a few different tank bag in your collection and they all use the same mount.

+1 for these type..Givi or better..bags connection bags. The bags connection bags can be "electrified" through a kit that enables your quick connect bag to have power sockets for recharging and for GPS etc. They are pricey but they are very well made and believe me..they will not come off the quick connect bracket unless you want them to.

How does this work? You'd have to run a wire from the bag somehow, no?

I saw the givi bag at GP with the base it's about $200 but it looks better I think than the regular bags for non magnetic tanks. I'm considering it just too broke right now.

I have a Kriega tank bag (below). Straps onto frame and completely waterproof. Also, comes in various sizes. No complaints.

I dont have it, so this may not be right. I believe the quick release that is attached to your gas cap, is wired from the battery. Then when the bag is connected, its powered by the bike batter and has a plug in it somewhere where you can power your devices.

Iiinteresting!! I'll have to look into that. Would save me having to wire a socket to charge my stuff etc.

Wonder if they could do multiple types of plug ins. Would be great to run my heated jacket through there when its cold.

While this looks really good, do you find it bothers you while riding? I'm looking at tank bags myself but I'm worried I may find having something in front of me drives me nuts

Those are nice but pricey! $40 just for the plastic ring and another $100 for the bag itself. Would be nice if the bag came with the ring. Think I'm going to glue some magnets under my tank fairing like bskin did.

You get what you pay for. It all comes down to what you can live with. I loved that nothing was touching my tank. In the past, I had tank bags scratch my paint, and I was careful with it as well, but scratches in time eventually came. It does cost more, but its a great system. Each to their own, but not sure if I would ever trust or want to glue something to my bike.

Fair enough. Does this thing convert to a backpack when off the tank? That's one thing I like about the bag I have but the plastic locking plate makes it look impractical on this bag.
