Tank bag suggestions?

What bike are you on?

I'd recommend a Giant Loop or Wolfman tank bag.
The Giant Loop bags a big pricey ($170) but they are bomb proof and you can pick them up at Snow City Cycle in Toronto.

I've got an Oxford bag which I bought for $80 at Brampton Powersports...love the bag. Doesn't get in the way of anything and very good quality for the $.

Check out gearscanada.ca They have a good selection and quality is excellent. Ive got the Navigator tail bag as well as the tank bag with map pocket. Website is informative as it gives all dimensions as well as CAPACITY which is good to know for comparison. Plus they are a Canadian company with free shipping for most items. And fast. I bought the Navigator after reading an excellent Cycle Canada review

I got my tank bag (love the thing!) from a friend for like $20 because he bought a new CBR and it had a plastic tank :D

Yeah, I really like the Oxford x30. Which model did you get and did you see any x30's at brampton power?

That's a nice looking tailbag/tour bag and a sweet looking price. Bookmarked

I bought the Icon Urban Tank bag from Snow City. Still happy with it for commuting, first longer trip (to Montreal) is next week....

Looks alright, not a huge fan cause it looks bulky as f. Do you actually use it as a backpack?

This is a great bag. I used one for years on my GS500 only issue is that over prolonged use you will start to get micro scratches, or minor scratches from where the magnetic pads drag upon taking it off. I'd either consider putting a patch of material on the pads that is softer than the default pad or be very cautious when putting it on and off as you dont want to ruin the look over time.

Take a look at Moto Pak http://motopakluggage.com/luggage.html

The GT-Pocket is a great small magnetic tank bag. Fits a small tool kit, wheel locks, extra keys and mine and 2 mens sized wallets and two cell phones with some room to spare. It's on my bike all the time.

The GT-Mini can carry a butt load of stuff for a day trip and can be expanded from its normal size to almost double for extra kit. It's the closest approxamation of the one you posted as a reference.

The company is also Canadian (no border fees). I purchased the Pocket, Mini and a set of Saddlebags and they combined shipping.

If I were to ever use a tank bag again, I would get the Quick Lock system (had it on my last bike). Nothing touches the tank, so never the chance of a scratch. Sturdy, goes on and off faster then a magnetic tank bag as you don't have to worry about scratching. A big pricier setup, but in the long run I think its a better buy. You can get powered units as well, to wire to your batter.

Thats one example, you can look on that site for what fits your exact bike, if your interested.

The Quick Lock setup is really nice, don't know how much I'd trust it with a packed to the brim tank bag though (mine weighs about 25lbs loaded).

I like MotoPak for the price. My GT-17 has been in service for about four years now, very functional and works fine. It's even been run over bike a car (my fault, not the bag's) which broke a bit off the plastic support inside and added some character, works fine though.

Run out to a shop and try a few on your tank... You wanna make sure there will be no obstruction with your control. I'm currently using Frank Thomas luggage (tank and backpack) but really their all much the same. If anything I'd recommend a manufacturer with a lifetime warranty ie Oxford.

There are a few large options. I have never had that weight in my tank bag, I have ample storage everywhere else so never needed to load it down. But I have had mine stuffed full a few times and the whole system is very sturdy. Its a pretty solid system, but again pricy and needs a bit of work to setup on your bike as well as the bags themselves.

I have a Technic bag my wife bought me over a decade ago. The magnets are key, I never need/use the safety straps. (thus speeding tank access at gas stops)

It has a second section that zips on top and provides enough room for a weekend away if I'm not camping. That's a great option to consider. Both units have map sleeves.

I used to have a magnetic bag on my 650r, but you need to be extremely careful taking it on and off, the smallest amount of dirt under the flaps will scratch the tank..

This is Givi's version of the quicklock.. they call it tanklock I think.. I have 2 bags, a small one for around town, and this big 24L I put one when touring.. I've had it loaded up with gear, my DSLR, water bottles etc.. the weight was no problem..

Back from Montreal, I drove through wicked storms and wind on the way back, the tank never moved and kept my stuff dry. Easy on/off for gas refills etc.
Plenty of room for rain gear, toiletries, clothing and toys for my 3 days trip, sufficient for more if I wasn't carrying safety litre of oil....

Only negatives, all minor
- map section is not quite 8.5X11 so you need to fold or computer printed maps slightly
- shuts my choke off at extreme throw

She's a keeper.

Bonus: it grabs the side of my file cabinet at work making storage a breeze.
