Taking off fairings for oil change

I'm having trouble taking of the side fairing of my bike to do my first ever oil change. I got all bits off except the bottom bit near front tire that connects the 2 fairings and the top part that's connected the to black plastic cover underneath. Can someone with a GSXR reply please.

If your having problems getting the fairings off I would definitely try to find a service or at least an owners manual online as they come in handy.

At the bottom the fairings are connected by two plastic type screws (similar to the ones that were put in down the front part of the fairing), those will have to be removed and then there’s a small clip type mechanism, you may have to lie down and look directly up at the bottom of the bike. At the top there is also a little tab that fits into the upper fairing which just needs to be gently pulled to get it out as well (as long as you got the screws out from the top/sides). If you post some pictures of what you have done so far it’ll probably be easier to help but these are the two things I think you might be missing.

I managed to get the oil change done but couldn't take the clip off under the headlight so I let the fairing hang I worked around it. Very awkward, you think for something that needs to be done often they couldn't make it easier to access. Just replacing the filter was hard cuz it was behind the fairing. Do you need to replace the filter every 5000km?

I change my oil and filter every 5k km's and I never take the fairings off.
It gets easier with practice.

Mind doing my next oil change and showing me how you do it bike god? (Bike god in reference to Cool Runnings when Sanka calls Irv (coach) "Sled God" I'm saying it the same way... I think I'm being funny )

Also I put 2.5L of Motul 7100 4T Full Synthetic with a Kimpex oil Filter and the oil level is in the bottom end of the F/L measurement, so I put more oil in and bring it closer to F? Its about 1/3 between Full and Low.

'06 GSX-R fairing removal:
1. Remove the 3 bolts at the top of the fairing.
2. Inside the top of the fairing pop the center of the large black pop connector (the name escapes me for the moment). It will come out when you separate the fairing from the inner plastic piece.
3. Remove the lower rear bolt
4. With a screw driver pull out the center part of the pop connector and the pry out the large inside part of the same connector.
5. Separate the back of the inner faring piece from the outer. This is not an important step just yet. It will come apart on it's own but be aware that there are some interlocking parts there.
6. Remove the smaller pop connect on the bottom on the left side of the bike. You don't need to remove the one on the other side.
7. Slide out the metal piece and the bottom should now be separated.
8. Working from the bottom pull the fairing out of the tab bracket.
9. Work your way up, there are couple of tabs to remove.
10. Near the top at the front (left side), there is a flat tab from the inside piece of the fairing. This holds on really tight and you need to work it off by lifting up and out on the faring.
11. Once that comes loose you'll just have to wiggle the fairing piece off.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I got all those disconnected except for one of those push in clips on the inside of the wheel well area (the bigger one at the front of the bike). everything came off except for that, didnt wanna force it because I thought I might break it.

Never done an oil change on a gsxr with oem plastics but on my zx10 I just removed the belly pan (2 pieces) and it takes all of 5min.

Don't you get oil dripping all over your fairings if you do this?

Not sure about your bike but on my F4i, I wrap tinfoil around the headers and lay a sheet on the belly pan and anything that drips down from the oil filter runs down the tinfoil and into the oil pan, after I just take the tinfoil out and everything is clean and didn't have to remove the fairings.

You only need to remove the fairings to replace the oil filter, I donno how you can fit your hand through the gaps and get enough leverage to tighten the filter.

K&N filters have a 17mm nut on the end so you don't have to get your hand in there, You can just use an extension on the socket and it should reach.

Oh boy, filters only get tightend 1/2 a turn from when they make contact. Never use a filter wrench or a wrench on the filter.

lol do you use the little gap on the fairing to put your hand in and remove the filter? there is no need to touch the fairings on that bike

I also put and remove the oil filter without a tool, by hand only

Literally takes me 5 min to do an oil change

I just remove the the lower fairing screw and the front bracket that holds the two fairings together.
I pull them off a bit but never completely off the bike.

I also hand tighten the filter and remove it with a filter wrench.

It's easy - 2 minute job. No need to remove, or loosen any plastics at all.
A 'cup' style filter wrench is key - place it on by hand - then connect ratchet. Once you get it snug, detach ratchet from cup wrench - remove one at a time. Done.

Can someone please make a video with an 06/07 GSXR 600. I wanna see how you guys do it without removing the fairings. Also i used my hands to put the filter on, people are saying I shouldn't make it too tight. I put it in tight enough that to take it off you gotta use all ur grip to take it off, then loosen with your fingers. I used only my hands to take the filter off and put the new one on.
