Taking Food to the US?

The only thing I ever got questioned about was where the fresh fruit in my lunch was from. If local or from the US they don't care. If it's from somewhere else, they don't necessarily want it. Think invasive species etc.

Not necessarily true. If you take a Florida orange to California it could carry a fruit fly from one area to another. Due to our small crop of oranges here Canada wouldn't care but Cali would. I could see problems with any uncooked foods.
 
We were stopped a the Detroit border and asked if we had oranges or beef. The customs officer promptly deposited our beef sausages and oranges into the trash can.
