SUV recommendation

Looking at possibly leasing a SUV or something similar. Don't want a minivan. This is mainly for business so it'll be a write off. Going got to transfer my car to my parents and use the SUV as I need more space.

I'm looking at what's out there, basically, best value for the buck. I like the Hyundai Tuscon GL as it was more affordable. Santefe was nice, but more costly.

I need bluetooth at the minimum and would prefer heated seats. I drive a lot so good gas milage is a plus. I assume it'll be lower in insurance than the 2012 Elantra I'm driving now.

I'm leaning more towards leasing right now.

Any recommendations?

As for SUVs, Depending on what you buy insurance may not be lower many do not crash well and cost big dollars for basic body repairs, they also get stolen more, do your research here. Even though they claim good numbers these days everyone I know that drives an SUV (other than the CRVs of the world) complains about gas mileage (including what you listed). My turbo charged cars stomp them in real world gas mileage, many have seen the light and sold the SUV...

For the price of the crappy SUVs you can get a nice car (wagon or hatch if you need space). If you are really in minivan denial like most SUV drivers, do yourself a favour, get over it and get a van....

after having owned two suv in the last three years, i can tell you that i hate them. they are absolutely horrible on gas mileage, and the bigger ones drive like complete crap. are there other reasons for wanting an suv? because if you want space and fuel economy, imho there are better options.

i am happy with my optima and when i need 'space', i put a trailer on the hitch.

would doing the same with your elantra accomplish 95% of what you want?

as for space, what about a jetta/golf wagon? tdi has ridiculous fuel economy.

toyota matrix...does everything a small "suv" does, 35 mpg, fun to drive, cheap.

The small GM SUV's are nice and get the best mileage of any SUV (GMC terrain or Chev Equinox) and are made in Canada.

Not a bad choice.

I have been very happy with my 2007 Ford Edge. It doesn't have bluetooth but the newer ones do. Heated cloth seats are available where most vehicles require a leather interior to get the heated seats. 6 speed auto with the 3.5L V6 is a good driveline. The transmission has behaved oddly a few times in the 2+ years I've had it but nothing serious. It has 135K on it now and I've had to do brakes, a wheel bearing, outer tie rods and sway bar links.

It drives very nicely, very much like a car. Gets reasonable gas mileage, about 9-9.5l/100km on the highway and about 12-13 in the city. Mine is AWD and with good snow tires it's a tank. Tons and tons of room inside! I can sleep in the back with the back seats folded down and if you ever need to travel with people you can take 4 adults very comfortably.

The 2013 Escape will be out in the next couple weeks and is supposed to be pretty awesome, and great on gas:

But I still prefer the new Edge. Also coming out with a turbo 4 cyl, which will be great on gas and have nice power:

Leasing? Gold Wagon TDI

If you need a ton of space (as in a minivan) then an SUV will disappoint as they're only big on the outside. Particularly a cute ute like the Tucson will have pretty ordinary storage space, maybe no better than your Elantra. Way better off with a Mazda 5 or Chevy Orlando.

But if your ego requires an SUV then the Mazda CX-5 has killer fuel efficiency, even when compared to many cars.

It's a car that thinks it's a minivan. All backseats down and you can't be the cargo space.

^^^^ The only thing good about that vehicle, is that it comes with a stick. But its a really, really gutless machine.

The CX5 or the CR-V are great choices.

I owned a Pilot for many years and have nothing but good to say about it. Eight seats, good quality build and good resale. Towed an enclosed trailer with 2 bikes and gear up and down I-75 to Florida no problem.

Any SUV will suck gas, loaded or unloaded.

I rented an Edge when they first came out and I loved it. I just don't think it's the biggest mid size SUV out there but it all depends on what you want from the vehicle.

2013 ford edge looks interesting but way too expensive to lease at 7.99% and it's pretty expensive on it's own.

GM Is doing 0% financing for this month....so buy one...might be worth while...

Depends on the space that you need but I found the smaller SUVs aren't all that roomy on the inside or in the baggage department...

My parents have the Nissan Rogue (great car, with fairly good mileage, most comfortable seats IMO) and my sister has the Kia Sportage (very comfortable, good mileage, and space is OK).

Good luck.

All the new Ford SUVs are pretty nice IMO.. the Escape was overdue for a make-over. The new Exploder, Edge and Escape are really nice looking. The Flex.. eehh.. not sure. In general tho, Ford is one of the few auto makers that is making stuff that I like.

The Ecoboost 4-cylinder is already available in the Edge. It was not an option when I got mine.
