Suspension, but 0 demerit points

Quick question.

Pulled up my drivers abstract, I had my license suspended for 50 km/over. The abstract says:

SUSPENDED UNTIL 10:17 AM ON FEB. 2, 2012, RACING
CONTEST OR STUNT - ADMINISTRATIVE SUSPENSIONS
SUSPENSION

7 days after it says:

REINST - SUSP. EXPIRED OR RESCINDED
SUSPENSION

Current demerit points 00

Now, if my insurance looks at this, would my insurance raise? The reason I ask is because it hasn't, and also because I still have 0 demerit points. (I fought the ticket, and won..technically)

Seeing the above on an abstract, would your insurance go up? Basically my question.

If you were not convicted of 172 the suspension is registered as administrative and insurance companies are not allowed to effect premiums based on it.

Fwiw the admin suspension will stay on your abstract for three years.

Unfortunately, your ****ed.

One of q's they ask you prior to getting insurance is "has your license ever been suspended?". This is the insurance companies' way of bending you over, even if you dont have the charges.

Johnnyp636 been in that exact situation too if Im not mistaken. And it may be a 5 or 6 year thing too.

Are you positive, or guessing?

The poster above had a different answer, and so does this thread.

Not completely true, I have a 7 day suspension from a racing charge and its only on my abstract for 3 years. So insurance can not see it after 3 years.

I have also been charged and convicted with dangerous driving in the past, and that was on my driving record for 5 years, because it is a criminal charge not HTA. There is also a one year suspension and probation that came with that conviction.

I believe the 3 vs 5 year record is due to it being a much more serious criminal charge, where as careless even thou more serious at 6 points, is still just an HTA charge...You dont get arrested like I did for dangerous driving :p

The kick in the *** with the racing is I won all 4 tickets I got that day in court, they were all thrown out at trail because they were BS. Yet I still have the 7 day suspension stain for 3 years on my record...Now thats BS! I won but I still lost

I found the post.

How the hell do we have idiots running over pedestrians or killing riders in cages not get charged dangerous yet someone as humble and respected like JohnnyP get dangerous? This system is ****ing backwards.

The insurance companies are not supposed to be able to ding you for administrative suspensions, such as this, where no conviction is entered. They really aren't very specific when they ask the question, though.

Interesting. Apparently Kanetix doesn't know that, the rates jump as soon as I enter that I have an ADLS.

I'll leave it out, and bring it up in the conversation if they ask. Thanks Rob.

Kanetix was the first site I checked, after reading this thread. If you look very carefully, in the area where they ask you about suspensions, you can get a pop-up window by moving your mouse over the word "suspended." In that balloon they describe what they mean by suspension, and the examples are NOT of ADLS.

I have had this question asked before, and all you need to do is ask them to clarify the question. Just play dumb and ask them to explain what they mean. You can also ask if there are different types. Reveal nothing but tease it out of them. Once they clarify there are different types, then re-ask...so which one are you refering to and what is the difference....and so on. Make them work for it. In the end you will find they will likely dismiss administrative suspensions. If not clarify with them how their company views them.

They also ask the same thing with regard to tickets. They don't word it properly and ask if you have had any convictions many times. Instead they ask have you had any tickets. Again there you would ask, "do you mean convictions?", "what about parking tickets?". Play dumb and make them explain everything clearly. Drag it out asking about parking tickets too, so next time they will be more clear rather than have you ramble on.

To summarize: They leave questions purposely vague, or incorrectly worded, in order to obtain information that is not supposed to be relevant.

Great thread. Def learned something here.

When I called TD for my insurance I disclosed that yes I had a suspension but it was administrative (3 Day .05 WARN). They checked my abstract took 20 minutes then told me they had to talk to their supervisor for another 20 minutes and then proceeded to tell me that administrative suspensions don't apply to insurance premiums.

Administrative suspension shouldn't affect your insurance unless they're mis-entering them in the system.

Oh and my rates ended up the exact same as what I was quoted online before I disclosed the suspension to them.

I was just told my CAA that they cant take me on because of the suspension. They were quoting my family $2400 less a year than my current insurer.

I could use some help, if someone knows a company, or a way to go through this. That's a big savings a year, and our family is scared to switch because they think we might get cancelled if they find out about the suspension.

Any ideas?

If they are not supposed to be able to discriminate based on Admin suspensions then contact the ombudsman

It is against the law for them to rate u on an administrative susp.
Just went through this with riders plus. I even got the manager and he told me they called bupand were told they could not insure me with that susp. Knowing they where full of slit I called another broker who also sells intact. Told them about the susp and they called intact directly and spoke to the under writer. They where told as well that it was an admin susp and I am free and clear. Some brokers just don't know.
