Is there a middle-ground between the drz400sm and the 690 SMC?

In terms of price and performance?

I know many people say(rightly so) that mt07 is basically a drz on steroids, maybe there are others im missing

thinking of getting something light, and somewhat affordable that I can stunt on but also do decent highway runs on

625 SMC's are rare but can sometimes be found for cheap. Crazy amounts of fun, downside being reliability is questionable. Can do short stints on the highway, but vibrates too much for anything beyond an hour.

There really isn't anything, thats why the DRZ is so popular. Husky/KTM make a few different dual sports/sumos in the 350-500 range that would destroy a DRZ in every category, but are like $12-14k new, basically the same as the 690/701.

I don't know how much you weigh going by the name "bigpoppa", but I'm 6'2" 225lbs and the DRZ is working hard on the highway with me on it. It's not a highway bike from my experience.

Cast wheels on a supermoto makes no sense to me. Look great but functionality wise.... supermotos should be able to take some abuse.... small hill jumps, curbs, you name it. They crack too easy.

I agree. But I still like the way they look.
