Super charged africa twin coming

I'm very unconvinced by most of that project. Interesting experiment but so many possible pitfalls (no intercooler so limited power bump, probably needs high-test, more tempermental, expensive, etc).

The comment about "Kawasaki’s H2 range has already conclusively proved that engine-driven superchargers have a future on two wheels. " was interesting. Wasn't H2 killed?

I like that their trying, but imo, the supercharger is a great solution to make a grail bike, not to try to stretch a marginal power output to try to keep up (but likely still not match) the power output of your competitors that aren't using this expensive trick.

The Kawasaki H2 range is most certainly still available. The original model has had a good run, even if they were to stop now. The Z H2 (naked model) is new this year.

I'm unconvinced by Honda's plans. More power isn't what those big adventure bikes need. Less weight and bulk is what they need. Unless, of course, they're just building a pretender of some sort. But, I'm not really a fan of that segment. (Had an adventure bike as a rental ... didn't care for it. I realize that they sell a bazillion of them, but that doesn't make me like it. You can say the same thing about a Ford Explorer.)

I think Honda has BMW envy.

They've seen the big GSes get heavier and more powerful each iteration and the sales numbers keep going up, as the target demographic gets less focused on *being* dirt-capable and more focused on *looking* dirt-capable but with cruise control, heated seats, adaptive headlights, coffee mug warmer, etc... Basically, the market wants a Goldwing with dirtbike fairings: "I just need to *LOOK* adventurous!"

The 1250GS is the first big GS I'm taking a hard pass on. My grail bike would be 300lb wet, 100hp, 400 km range, with 10K service intervals. I think the 690 Enduro/701 platform is a good starting point.

More power is always the answer.
Regardless of what the question is.

I bet some dyno printouts would explain this bike.
Yeah the Bimmer makes like 138 HP, but at plus 5500rpm.
Keeping a 300# adventure bike at +5500rpm in the muck would be a challenge to say the least.

So if Honda can build a bike that can produce a REAL flat torque line, that starts making torque just off idle, where you can use it, it would be a game changer... or a hell of a hooligan.

The Multistrada already pretty much abandoned the dirt-bike pretenses, and they've got the V4 coming.

Honda is moving the Africa Twin toward the GS1250 and Super Tenere side, why they even went up to 1100cc. There are talks of a TransAlp coming back, a 750cc mini Africa Twin to compete with the T7. If Honda kept the AT like the original, it would be very close to a TranAlp and they would be competeting withe each other. This way they will be in 2 very different markets

Can's see a turbo or SC working on an off road bike. Moving thru some loose terrain then all of a sudden bang! the turbo kicks in.

Sure lots of engine controls could do something to smooth out and control power delivery, but do you really need the low end loss and high end gain offered by turbos and superchargers?

 "turbo kicks in"
you must be thinking Nitrous Oxide Injection and you are watching way too many fast&frivolous movies.

is this a good deal? i was thinking trading the Versys and KLR in on something that will do hwy and dirt. i know the klr will do both but would like something that wouldn't struggle at 70+ mph on the hwy

read the reviews on the bike
they look great, will likely be super reliable
offers all the thrills of driving a mini-van
superb Honda engineering succeeds in making it as boring as possible
but some people want that

That's the bikes where the engine is half of a Fit/Jazz car engine, complete with low redline. Yawn.
I was more interested in the reliability of the bike and it's a ability to do some dirt. also combined with comfort. i don't need to feel the tingle in my hands revving at 8000rpm.

... ability to do some dirt. ...
It's about as good as my MV Agusta, which is actually far better then my K100RS.

... NC does feature a really cool cost saving, they punched the rear brake disc out of the centre of the front disc.
