Sunroof Installation

Problems in the sense that it won't open and close or when it does open it's off track and doesn't go all the way back as it's supposed to. Mainly electrical issues.
The only time I have seen a factory roof leak is in an old rust bucket with LOTS of speed holes.
It's not fun driving in the rain and have water dripping all over you!
OP- save that 1000$ and put it to towards something more useful!
Hmm well I've read plenty of posts on automotive forums about leaky sunroofs. Maybe it's a European car thing. Although my last Jetta's didn't leak and neither does my SAAB's. My Porsche's sunroof was leaking but the seals were probably original. I replaced them with new that were so much thicker I can barely get it to close properly and now it doesn't leak.

Apparently clogged drains are the most common cause for that problem though.

There's nothing like having it open with some trance on and driving out in the country on a nice summers night.

There IS something better than that. It's driving with some good music on the country roads on a nice summer night in a cabrio with the roof down ;).

(how much would that cost as an aftermarket mod?)

Since were kinda on the topic of car mods.. I also want to get an automatic starter, any1 know how much that would cost me? ( I know for a standard I will need to get a clutch disabler)

future shop sales a fairly cheap car started, I got one for my car a few years ago and no problems.

Didn't even know you liked sun roofs that much

Just as an FYI..buddy bought a used car, kept shutting off on him. Took it to a mechanic after trying all the usual stuff. Previous owner had installed a remote starter and after a few years the tape he used to insulate the connections moved off and it was causing an intermittent short. He had no idea the car had a remote starter..no fob from previous owner. So if you're going to get one, make sure they install it properly with heat-shrink insulators.

i used to install aftermarket sunroofs when i was in the autobody trade .
Vans and pickups are easy and if you pay attention during the install will not leak. Cars, particularily new ones have lots of lights and consoles and wires and antenna stuff and cross bracing and funky shaped headliners that make the interior trim look ****** when fitted out. The old style was an open/shut clamp down that was hard to make leak, then they got fancy with back pivots/ retracting panels and hard to seal stuff. I wouldn't touch a car with an aftermarket hatch.
Just roll a window down.

+1 constantly fixing aftermarket sunroofs :(.

An aftermarket sunroof is the most expensive way to turn your car to **** ever invented. $1000 is just what you pay, you still have to figure the thousands of dollars you lose in the value of the car, plus having to live with the annoyance/damage of a roof that whistles, leaks, squeaks, rattles, rusts, and might not even work after a while.

Get a car with a factory sunroof, for the love of god. They are much, much cheaper. As an added extra bonus, they work too.
