And I missed the Highlights so I will add them now
Highlights.....
Mt Evans
Driving to the top of this was very intimidating.
I mean you really had to watch what you were doing.
But the view along the was was simply breathtaking.

Peek to Peek....what a treat it was to ride this.
Estates Park is a beautiful city and I just loved the ride over to Loveland.
You follow a river all the way there.
Tons of people were fly fishing....a real treat.

US Hwy 85
This ride is right out of the movie Dances With Wolfs
Its a very desolate area with 40 miles of strait away then a curve then 40 miles of strait away.

Vanrocker Canyon Rd.
Runs right into Sturgis.
This is a must do road.
For some reason nobody ever mentions this road.
I guess its a well kept secret.

Breakfast....Sitting at a picnic table eating pancakes and sausage in the beautiful area of Nemo.....simply priceless.

Downtown Sturgis....crazy busy and more bikes than you can ever imagine.
And that was before the Rally even started.

Deadwood....all these little towns are a must do but downtown Deadwood is at the top of the list.
Park your bike and just walk around.

Bridges....they make them out of wood.
This is a great idea.

Awesome thanks

Hey Kiley welcome back! Glad to hear you had a great trip. Peak-to-Peak Highway was one of my favourites too - actually just about the only part of last year's trip I duplicated this year it was such fun to ride. As you say, Mt. Evans has spectacular views, but there were no "whoopee" moments for me going up - in fact I offered some guy $100 to ride my bike back down for me ;-) Did you notice any damage from the tornado that touched down there at the end of July?

Great pictures :)

Hey Beastie.
Didn't notice any damage but the locals were telling me that there was a funnel cloud on top of Mt Evans the day i got there.
Apparently this is a first that a funnel cloud has been spotted that high.
Because of the rain that they got the day before the ride up was very hard.
Water would run off the land and across the ash-fault creating a small river about 6 to 12 inches wide.
As you went higher these would freeze and made the ride rather tricky.
Peek to Peek was a real treat and a great ride.
I loved the ride from Estates Park over to Loveland along the river.
The lack of people there made it even better.
I didn't see a substantial amount of bikes till i got to Custer and that was early in the week.
By the end of the week it as crazy busy and all this was still before the rally started.
Going back next year for sure and I want to go north as I missed the Beartooth Hwy :)

Also.....
I too had trouble at the boarder.
I was held up for about an hour as they wanted to go through all my bags.
They had the dogs there and everything.
They asked me 5 times what gang I was affiliated with.
Really gave me a hard time about that.
Also gave me a hard time about traveling alone.
Coming home was a breeze....I was through in about 5 mins.

Wow, what a cool trip. Definitely something I would like to do in the near future.

You covered a lot of ground the first few days. How often were you stopping?

I pack up and start heading out of SD
This is a gas stop outside Rapid City

I tried to make De Moines but it was getting dark
Super 8 here I come

Ohhh I remember this. Its where I got stranded in a windstorm, in the middle of no where! There was an older lady who worked at the gas station telling me stories about how 1880's town came about, a pudgey guy who kept selling me snacks, and a middle aged one who seemed like she hated life. Did you go into 1880s town or eat at the train?

Wow thanks for bringing this thread back to life.
With the way the weather has been its nice to look back on this trip.
Jason…stopping really whenever I want.
To me it really is the only way to ride.
When you change that……well now it becomes a job and not a vacation.
And there’s so many things to factor in.
Weather, wind, hunger, smoke, thirst, heat, or to stretch the legs to name a few.
I’m 24 days smoke free now so that won’t be a factor in the future J
I stop every 150 miles or so for gas and that helps to stretch the legs.
Major interstates have rest areas every 60 miles or so and I’ll sometimes stop at one of them…..free wifi lol
If I feel I need a break….I take one.
Take this trip for example….Day 2 I traveled 580 miles.
I thought for sure I would make it to Colorado.
I stopped for gas in Lexington Nebraska.
While filling the body said “ya you’re not going any further”
So I finish filling….grab the hotels coupon flyer and a block away is a Days Inn at $42 a night.
Had a Arby’s beside it….no baked potato though….what bs that is.

Wheelieboy….had a look at your video and ya that looks like the place.
The morning I was leaving I had on the weather channel.
I had concerns about the wind.
From what I remember this is 80 to 100 miles outside Rapid City and by the time I got there the wind had died right down to nothing.
But you can see where it could be a real problem.
Anyway…once I got there I just stopped for gas and a quick smoke and was on my way.
But this place was packed with bikes

I can’t wait to do this trip next year.
There’s still so much more for me to see out there.

You're an ironman for doing all the distance in one day on a Heritage!
I've been wanting to do one of these long trips in a while but the thought of slabbing it on a vrod was not something I wanted to do. I'm picking up an FLHX next year and look forward to some long distance rides.

Princess is so lucky. This is a wealth of information with the photo's and including the details you shared. Really good for making plans for next year. Glad you had a safe trip.
