First off my apologies.
I didn't realize that this didn't get posted here this summer.
It was a over site on my part.
So here is a trip I did this summer.

Iron Butt Saturday!!!
It's official....I got it in!!!!
Took about 18 hours.
Down to about 58f when I went through Chicago and didn't really warm up until Albert Lea.
Took about 5 tanks of gas to complete.
Here's a pic of my new girl at some gas stop north of Madison I think.
The rest is from a Rest Stop in Chamberlain SD and the Missouri River.
What a beautiful view from up there.

I spent these in Custer SD right in the heart of the Black Hills.
I stayed at a mom and pop motel called the Chief
Great place if you are ever in the area.
I rested a bit her but also did some of the roads that i missed last year.

I head home looking forward to my own bed

The Trip.....
The trip this year was over 6000km....a little over 3700 miles.
I did rest a little but I did also have some long days in there.

Iron Butt....I'm glad I did it.
It wasn't easy but I'm pretty proud of myself.
I wont be doing another one.

Last year I did Colorado then Sturgis.
This year I did Montana and Sturgis.
Oh how I love Montana,
It is so beautiful there.
I would love to go back and spend a week there.

Overall it was a great trip.
I have a problem with putting all those miles on the bike.
For most people it would take 3 days to get out there and I don't know if I can justify 6 days of my holidays spent on I90.
I may look at this differently for next year.
its just so many miles to get there.
But i loved this trip.

Any words of wisdom for someone doing a big, solo tour of the US this summer?

i am planning on staying off the interstates!
 
Solo...yes.
I've done both....Solo and group.
Either or is fine with me.
With solo you get to come and go as you please and I like that.
But ya this trip was solo
Words or wisdom....wow there's so many
First....listen to your body...If it says you are done for the day then find a place to crash and call it a day.
Don't try to push on.
Tomorrow is another day.
Next...take advantage of the interstate rest stops or other rest stops.
there clean...usually have water to rehydrate and they have wifi.
Also they have Hotels.com magazines outside the washrooms....you can find cheap places to stay in them.
Next....research, research, and oh ya research :)
Its ****** outside now so its a good time to do all the research needed.
Next...I understand that you want to avoid the interstate.
But if you need to get from point a to point B in a hurry then the interstate is the way to go.
Next....To each his own i guess but i don't like to eat during the day.
I prefer to have a big meal at night
For me having a full stomach and riding around don't mix well so i just kinda snack during the day.

Next...I bring a couple hundred cash and the rest is credit card.
I use the cc for gas accommodations and meals.
Then just pay if off when I get home.
Credit card gas in Michigan is a pain but works great in most other states
Rain...rain sucks...there's just no happiness in it at all.
Allow for rain days and watch the weather channel at night.
All the trips I've done and I have been really lucky with rain so its hard for me to complain.
But I have heard some real horror stories.
Plan accordingly.

Heat....It can be a real *****
I went through Nebraska last year and it was 106
It can suck the life right out of you.
Early starts in the morning really help with this and lots of water.

Enjoy...enjoy the trip and see some amazing things and take lots of pictures.
Look at them in the winter....It helps to pass the time.
