Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

While we're on the topic of dodgy accessories, I'll add parts. Have had my eyes peeled for some Brembo radial brake and clutch masters, and the majority of stuff for sale is fake. Like this:

There are a few tells besides the sloppy casting, but the biggest one I can see for the RCS19's is that Brembo casts their logo into the recessed bit above where it says RCS on the main body, while the fakes have it stamped in white.

I couldn't figure out why I got a hologram authenticity card with the Brembo stuff I bought from CarpiMoto a couple years ago, but I know now...
There's Brembo and there's BREMBO. I don't know if it's still true but at one point Suzuki was using the $1.98 Brembo front brake master cylinders on Gixxers instead of spending the extra dough for the good stuff. Yes, there is a difference. At least brand it ByBre or J-Juan.

Ohlins does the same with the OEM Ohlins that comes on the R versions of bikes compared to the $1500+ shocks you buy. The OEM ones are often similar quality to the budget items, just with yellow springs and a bit of gold anodising.

But these so-called Brembo master cylinders on Bookface and Kijiji are straight Alibaba copies, the Rolax watches of the motorcycle world. It seems fairly obvious when you compare them side by side, but if you look at the fakes without knowing what a legit one looks like, they can be convincing.

I wouldn't want to trust my life to Alibaba junk, personally.

Interestingly, there were a few fakes for sale that admitted they were fakes and are no longer up. Wondering if they took down the admitted fakes but left the fakes claiming to be real...

Who is supposed to be the arbiter of realness? That's important but a very very tough line. In practice, that's probably how some entire categories just get a blanket ban. Policing it is too hard so they just say no more at all. A couple pics from a potato and it's hard for most people to be able to conclusively identify a Rolax or Brenbo. Even in hand good copies survive some scrutiny.
