Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

I sold a Lightning with 29k on it for 6k just over a year ago. Lots of people emailed suggesting it was only worth 3-4 but being in no rush and the fact that they all list for similar prices, I waited a few months and got what I was asking for. They're uncommon, and good condition is becoming hard to find. That dealer will get somewhere in the ballpark with that number... eventually.

Last year, when I was looking at Buells, there was a 2007 Lightning posted for $4,700 for an entire season. At the end, asking price was dropped to $4,000. It sat there for another couple of months before disappearing.
I purchased a 2009 1125r for $3,400 with 14,000km on it. There were people in GTA asking 6-7K. Some of those ads were up for over a year...
Buells are uncommon but they are also not sought after. Look at the average views per posting on Kijiji. Some of them have less than a 100 views after several days...
Better market south of the border though.
With that said - Lightning XB12 probably holds value best of all the Buells (aside from the Ulysses version).
I'd say you got lucky Neil.

I still wanna get another Buell down the line. Wish our insurance system didn't penalize us so heavily for owning multiple vehicles.

Don't forget, most XB's are butchered these days (or "custom", to the seller) and the 1125's are, and always have been, a steal, as most buell enthusiast snub their noses at the rotax power plant.. "be damned if it makes a ton more power, I want me Milwaukee iron" lol

Less I got lucky, more I had an excellent bike to sell. Even then, no denying it took a lot longer to sell than a more popular brand.

oh, and mine was only a 9 ;)

How much would a buell ulysses be worth? Lets say around 40 000km.

7000K for one with 12 000K seems a bit high for a brand that is dead and has almost or no local support. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-sport-tourin...xt/1092737745?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Great bike but the price? Wow! Very optimistic. Even those that love Buell would find that tough to swallow.

4K would definitely at the high end. Even with the luggage.

7k? Dreaming.

Guess they target the uninformed walk in. Some sweet sales talk, a $800 discount makes the buyer think they get a great deal and so they get 5200k for a bike they got for a lot less. Throw in some gear to go with the ADV lifestyle.

.

Have you ever bought a bike south of the border?

Which is odd if one remembers that Buell enthusiasts complained about the brand/owners being treated poorly by HD Dealerships and the Harley Faithful. Some have sworn eternal enmity towards the HD brand as well, if forums are anything to go by.

I remember buying Buell pegs for my zx6 years ago at the Front Street HD showroom. There was a black/red XB9 in the lobby. It looked like it belonged on the set of Mad Max. Very cool, but like many things cool, not affordable. The staff were very professional and courteous, even when they learned all I need was ~$40 in parts for a Japanese bike.

Question. Why do track bikes have no titles?

That or they were built on blank frames (likely for race bike, not as much for track bike) or write offs rebuilt for track use. Though a write off would still have a legitimate title....irreparable (can't be used on the street, but doesn't hold it back for track use).

We all know better than that... despite the angst, the HD powered models will always be worth more than the 1125's.. Looks may play a strong role there...

FWIW, guy who bought mine was an HD fanatic with multiple under his belt at that point... said he wanted something sportier, but wasn't will to part with the (agricultural) Harley character.

If you take a bike to and from the track on a trailer, it doesn't need a plate.
It's only being run on private property.
A lot of track bikes can't be licenced in any event as the Ontario government won't allow them on the street.
They are generally overpowered for the weight of the bike and they don't have hazards, turn signals or headlights (useless weight).
No plate, no ownership.
I don't race myself so I'm sure those that do will have a few things to add.
