Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

I've been meaning to add this one since around early December when I chased the owner for over a week to view it because it looked decent in the pics and was the colour my wife wanted. It's not so much that it may now initially seem that it's overpriced, although it's on the high side for what it is..but the ad sounded good and the pics made it look clean.

But...once I saw it....

Keep in mind he was asking $2800 for it in December. Would NEVER have paid that much for it (particularly in December!) but if it was as nice as it looked/sounded I would have offered $2000-$2300 maybe.

2001 Suzuki Marauder $2250.

So, yeah, after chasing the kid for a week (Don't even get me started how irked I was about that...honestly, you have someone interested in a starter bike IN DECEMBER and you give them the run around?) I finally got out to see it. Garage rolls up, bike is a enormous turd.

- It was advertised then (no longer I see) as "custom paint". Custom for sure, from a rattle can. The tank was embarrassing.

- The "new rear tire" is new all right, but had a gouge all the way around the tire about 5+ mm deep on the sidewall from a bolt used to secure the sissy bar which was too long. It would NEVER pass safety but when I mentioned it he assured me it would.

- The "smoked signal light lenses" were rattle can black paint.

There was more. I wasn't allowed to ride it but based on the cosmetics alone I didn't want to anyways. Took an immediate pass - I was actually frustrated honestly that I had invested as much time as I did for a giant POS that he'll be lucky to get $500 for, much less the nearly $3K he was asking at the time. Now he's down to $2250 in a market flooded by lower mileage and better condition 250's than his. I expect to see it listed all summer.

I ended up finding one exactly the same but in near showroom condition for $1600.

Provided the story is true I would guess he put $4K down and then:

A. Realized he couldn't make the payments
B. Can't find or afford insurance
C. Got told off by his old lady
D. All the above

lol. fail.

Funny, those exact same 4 things went through my head as well. ;)

Exhaust, security system and extended warranty cost him around $6,000?

Yikes! He got taken without any lube whatsoever.

Harley.... 'nuff said. Reason #1 I bought a metric cruiser. ;)

He's probably trying to get tax and financing charges back too (although you are going to have to pay tax as well, I don't think the MTO will appreciated an ownership transfer on a 0 km bike at $1000).

He also posted the edit link, hilarity will ensue shortly.

EDITS:
OMG, just pricing this bike on the HD website. Under "performance" they have at least 4 different kinds of muffler shields. I think their new slogan should be "HD, selling speed holes to the masses for over 100 years".

12999+450(alarm)+700(exhaust)+???(warranty)=22000??? Obviously he is going for the whole bill back. You'd think that HD would let you out of this for less than 4K. There can't be that much profit in the bike and unless he has had a giant penis airbrushed on the side, they shouldn't have trouble selling it to someone else.

It looks like he also recently sold (or tried to) a 2014 S1000RR with 1900km.

Claims to have paid $22k (retail starts at $13k for the base model...)

Would love to know the full story. #popcorn

Popcorn price aside, I love that model.

those pics are horrible!!

i remember going to see a 1 year old GSXR600 in hamilton (drove about a hour to see it) and was told it was mint...the bike was brutal, every single part was scratched including the top of the trip trees, the body was all patched back together and a quick 1 sided spray job with a lot of overspray and some cheap decals put back on with bubbles in them and runs and fish eyes in the paint, frame had scratches and to top it off...it wasnt even registered to the person who showed it to me.

About 4 years ago me and the wife drove 2 hours north to look at a set of Jetskis that looked SUPER clean in the photos. Older machines, but the pics were all solid (although all of them were taken in the summer, should have been warning sign #1), and it was January so it was still buyers market so it was worth the effort given as how they were also priced good and supposedly included a trailer.

Arrived to find them sitting on the gravel in his driveway (where the hell is the trailer?!), hulls full of water and frozen solid up to and including the bottom half of the engine block on one, gunnels full of water and frozen solid (couldn't even be bothered to put covers or a tarp over them), batteries both still hooked up and both frozen solid. Both showed signs of having never been covered in the sun, all the vinyl and plastic was sun bleached all to hell.

I was ****** and made a comment about how they looked a lot "different" (choosing words carefully) in the photos. "Well, it's winter you know, I took those a while back". Yeah, like a decade back perhaps.

Drove 2 hours home, fuming.
