Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Roger, I didn't realize the XV500 was originally equipped with a monoshock. Sounds like you thought about it, many front end swaps don't take spring rate into consideration

I think it's a cool build, and can see you've done a lot of work. I just don't see $6000, hopefully it works out for you.

My previous post was a little harsh. My issue with the current tank is the angle at the rear, it's too abrupt a line and it makes the bike look unfinished. A Honda CB or other peanut-like tank would be more flattering, IMO.

Value of these builds is highly subjective. But there's too many excellent ones out there, you really need to step it up to charge a premium. Again, IMO.

Agreed. The tank here really throws off the visual weight.

There are guidelines for the proper aesthetics of a cafe racer. This is a good overview...

Interesting read. Aesthetics is something that most people who build bikes throw straight into the garbage bin. ... And that applies to more than just cafe racers.

Indeed. Taste is highly subjective. And most people's taste is all in their mouth...

See too many shambolic bikes by people who have no experience/strong guiding principles or are just in too much of a hurry to get a bike that matches with an image they're projecting and make videos of grinder sparks singeing their neckbeards.

In any case, it's a bit sad, really. So many nice classics that would be better off restored to stock and passed on to the next buyer than becoming experiments. Like seeing a '70 Barracuda butchered and then repainted in murdered-out matte black...

An XV500 is not a nice classic, but an embodiment of the worst traits of gaudy 80's metric cruisers. The only thing it had going for it is that it was actually a V-twin. Compare a picture of that build against a stock XV500

I should probably qualify that I wasn't directing that last comment at the gentleman's build. More at the trend in general...

I can't believe the Kijiji sellers who cannot even be bothered to look up the price of a new unit.

Bracebridge: 2013 CB500X 500km $7,500

Compare: Sudbury: 2015 CB500XA 1km $6,499 ... new, with ABS, marked down from $6,999

(edit: closer to home, all the dealers are asking $7,200 new, marked down from $7,700)

people want to get back what they paid for it, taxes, interest and all.

I can't believe people buy and then sell a motorcycle without putting more than 500kms on it.
