Not at all the charge was not dismissed because I was an ex cop. The officer stated that he would request the crown withdraw the charge because the evidence I had, left him with a reasonable doubt and he also expected the JP would also have a reasonable doubt as to weather I was wearing my seat belt at the time of the offence. The standard of proof required to be judged not guilty is a reasonable doubt. Seeing, I was able to show a reasonable doubt there would have been no grounds upon which to base a finding of guilt.
I suspect this may have played a big part in the charge being dismissed.
My last interaction with a police officer resulted in just a warning, for the same offense actually. The officer struck me as someone best being honest, and thankfully I was right.
