Stripped oil drain plug

This is why I typically put a fumoto valve on most vehicles:

Zero risk of stripping (after it is installed), and makes it insanely easy to drain oil. I've had one on the car for around 6 years now with absolutely zero issues. It also is a 2-step to open it up, so there's zero chance it could ever do it on it's own.

I'll likely be putting on one the bike next oil change, as there are definitely no clearance issues on a CBR250R -- You'd tear your exhaust off before you'd ever hit the valve/plug.

With the spark plug heli coil you wont have to use a new bolt. Also the helicoil is MUCH stronger then the aluminium of the oil pan so you wont have the same problem again.

Even thought the HELI-COIL's stainless wire is stronger than the PAN's alumium...it DOES NOT MEAN that it would be better option in the long run.

The heli-coil wire sits in threads...which are still in aluminum, and if the bolt is over torqued they will move and the coil will pull out (VERY easy to do actually).

my MX bike is at the shop right now as the threads for the drain bolt were stripped. They tried a heli coil three times. The first time it didn't leak but the treads came out when I drained the oil and went to thread the bolt back in. next two times it leaked. Now they are trying a timesert apparently.

nope it wont. i have had 2 bikes come into my shop with helicoils in them and a oil leak .you have to replace the pan or go next size up on the bolt..next time dont tighten the bolt untill it goes loose..bobo.

I have experienced the same thing, but that was when using the OEM Suzuki crush washers, because they have a really small sealing surface that ends up on the coil causing a leak....If you go the coil route, I suggest swapping the OEM Suzuki crush washer for a plain aluminum or copper flat sealing washer...That will seal with the coil, as it has a much larger sealing surface, that will cover the coil and the pans surface

three times...that's quite a lot of times...hope they aren't charging you....

They must have done it wrong. If you dont helicoil it square the bolt will go in on an angle and just wont seal up against the crush washer. Done right it will never strip or leak again.

The spark plug repair kits are not the wire type helicoil, they are the save a thread type.

**** my life man, tried the helicoil, messed up the thread, didnt go 100% straight, anyways just ordered the new oil pan from suzuki, my question is, is it okay if the bike will stand without the pan or the oil for a couple of weeks?

appreciate all the help
