Street legal enduro bikes?

So, long story short---I used to ride dirt bikes in the past (10+ years ago), and just got the bug I wanna get one. But the catch is I want it to be street legal, so I can register it and purr around the block or to the convenience store LEGALLY.

I've looked them up and the following bikes seem to fit my requirements:

KTM 250 EXC
Yamaha WR250R

Are there any other similar bikes that can be made street legal and plated in Ontario? Since I enjoy working on bikes in my garage, I'll probably be best off with something really cheap even if not so reliable.

Search kijiji for blue plated bikes.

The WR250R is a great bike. Very reliable from what I have heard.

The Suzuki DR-Z400S/SM could also be considered.

I think I recall Coyo having a blue plated bike listed for sale here. Not sure if it sold or if he still has it? and it is in Hamilton

good luck

I have a friend who just did tail of the dragon and rode from here to it and back on a wr. He loves his bike and has never had one issue the years he's owned it. A couple other buddies also ride the drz's and also haven't had issues.

Not to hijack the thread but what does Blue Plated mean?

You used to be able to get road plates for dirt bikes (with some minimal level of upgrades such as lights). They were blue. They canned that program a few years ago so theoretically you can't get a blue plate for a bike that doesn't already have one now.

You can no longer make a bike street legal and plate it if it was not sold that way...
If you're looking for 250's there is also the Kawi KLX250 and Honda CRF250. If you want a little bigger you got the DRZ400 and the Big 4 all have a 650...

Blue plate refers to the letters of the plate being blue. If the letters are blue, that means its road legal.

Green plate refers to the same, except green if for offroad only.

So a blue plated dirt bike can be ridden on the road, but a green plate can not.

A cursory search on kijiji, by selecting dirtbike and then searching "blue plate" yielded a bunch of results, these look like alot of fun:

To the guys that ride these, how often do you get pulled over?

I have a blue plated 2-stroke dirt bike and I have never had any issues at all with the police.
It has a light and brake light and a bicycle horn and its good to go.

I have a blue plated crf250x and have never had any cop issues, my next bike will be a 350 KTM the Honda sucks on the road.

The bike looks and runs like it just rolled off the dearlership showroom. It is in absolute immaculate condition. Nothing needs to be replaced at all, bike is ready to hit the road. Only has 1160 km. It has only had one oil change since new after the break-in period. It is all stock for the exception of aftermarket mini stalk turn signals and drc edge2 tail light. Also comes with stock lights. It is blue plated and fully street legal. Will pass safety with ease. Do your research, this is an extremely rare ''m'' supermoto model that honda made for only one year. Asking $3800 obo

+1 on the DRZ 400 S(M), I would say if you decide on the DRZ go with the SM model because it has inverted forks. If later on decide you want dirt tires, it'll be cheaper to get a set of rims/tires then inverted forks.
Or just be like the guy I saw today riding a KLX 2 stroke during rush hour, it looked like his plate fell off his bike :lmao:.
