Stolen motorcycle on test drive tonight. June-14- 10 pm

Add to the list of things you might want to consider before putting keys in the ignition.

* Cash in hand
* Picture of drivers license
* Bike pointed towards garage or inaccessible location
* Somebody else with you (It doesn't have to be some large dude, but two heads will see a con easier)

Years ago, when I was much more nieve, I met a REALLY shady guy at my house. I graciously let him into my house, expecting a nice smooth transaction. He wanted to purchase an iPhone with fake US cash. I certainly didn't expect a scammer with fake US cash trying to convince me the Canadian dollar is really poor and I'm benefiting from this transaction. He was holding the iphone in his hand (inspecting it) while he slowly started to back away to the door. My girlfriend opens the basement door and her dogs run upstairs. 2 Siberian Husky's and a German Sheppard. At that moment I found out dogs are truly mans best friend. Hearing 3 large dogs growl like they are going to kill you, ends the transaction real fast. Skinny African-american in hoodie quite possibly pooped him pants, throws the iphone and bolts it. Getaway car has no plates. Some times humanity...............

Lucky for you chasm.. Unfortunately luck wasn't on my side.. and I didn't see the signs fast enuff..lesson learned after all Rome wasn't built in a day

Seems really your only mistake was trusting people not a fault but good character, everyone has let their guard down on this forum even if they admit it or not. I have a few times also.

In all honesty i thought i was talking to a fellow rider.. he made me feel so comfortable and in that one moment of distraction. .. she was gone

Simple solution.....put a disk brake lock on the front brake rotor.
Alleged 'buyer' can sit on the bike, start it, ect but not going anywhere.

that sucks!!
next time I am putting a camera when dealing with buyer and that disk brake idea is not bad either.

Too bad you don't live in the country, If someone stole the bike I was selling I'd either chase them with my much faster bike or probably shoot them.. Or maybe the 100 pound dogs would have fun with them lol

I think this thread has run it's course... and the word is out there (whatever good that will do now).

I for one, will no longer be leaving my key in my bike, whether it be at Tim Hortons parking lot with my back turned or on my driveway while I reach back into the garage.
This was the first time I ever heard of a bike being jacked infront of the owner.
Like I said before.. it's not "reasonable" to think that someone with no helmet, no riding gear, talking to you as a rider for 20 minutes, is going to jump on your bike and bolt off when you take your eyes off the bike for a split second. (with witnesses around mind you)

Wasn't it last year we had someone on a Ninja 250 who had his bike stolen while assisting another rider who had crashed?
That thread is here somewhere... wonder how that turned out for him.

To all those saying "lock the bike" "put a disk brake on it" etc. Remember here, you are trying to SELL a bike... you don't suspect the potential buyer to be a criminal and neither do you want to treat them like one. FFS.. I've walked away from a sale when I didn't like someone's tone. I'll be damned if had been treated like a criminal when I show up to purchase a bike.

Anyway.. hopefully this thread serves as a PSA to others to be more careful around your possessions. Selling or not.

Faith in humanity lost.

This just sucks bad. Hope insurance pays for it. Clearly a lesson was learnt here.

This blaming a dude that was killed this weekend and saying he got what he deserved is really morbid. How does ones mind just assume these things. Do you not think of how a family member or friend of the person would feel reading these things about a loved one that just had his life cut short.

This thread has served it's purpose might as well lock it now.... no not yet.. Cops have something.. they are investigating

Unfortunately, that means you will get a fraction of what the bike is worth..
Where did you get this info from? When my bike got totaled, I got for it probably more than what I would have selling it.

Friend of mine had two guys show up to buy his GSXR 750 in one bike, one took it for a test ride as my friend felt comfortable that the other guy stayed behind with him and the bike , they were chatting it out, the guy asked my friend for a smoke and when he turned around to go to his jeep to grab the smokes all he heard was the bike starting and the guy taking off.

Stupid ***!

Every bike I own has way more $ modifications than will ever get back on insurance. Insurance asks if bikes are modified, I see loaded question, answer to the negative. I don't see a winning strategy here.

Oh, sorry to hear about the friendly 5ft6in bike thief.

Wtf? What is it with people lately and trying to get threads locked? You are on a forum where people discuss things, just because the thread hurt your feelings doesnt mean it should be immediately locked...

Does the insurance company ask for your bike value if were selling? that's what the clerk asked last time was in insurance office, though don't really
know any other details...

Yes they do ask. I give weak number, not good money thrown after bad "invested".
