Sticky Throttle

Hey guys i just had a quick question, my bike recently got sticky throttle. Like it wont snap back at all and the revs continue to increase if i leave the throttle aswell. I was wondering how to fix it. Should i take it to a shop or try and do it myself? I also wanna know what caused it too, cuz im pretty sure i didnt do anything, i took it for a quick couple of spins when the throttle was working perfectly fine and the next day i come back into my garage to find my throttle is sticking lol.

Depends what the issue is...usually throttle cables aren't prone to fraying....so its the adjustment issue.

There should be two adjustors below the throttle grip, adjust those to see if it fixes it.

Not worth taking it to a shop for a simple fix like this.

Well the bike is still under warranty aswell, so i still deciding if i should mess around with it or not lol

always would start by checking if the grip has shifted and is pressed up to tight and stopping the throttle from returning to closed position smoothly. also check the cable routing too and see if getting pinched somewhere (usually at specific steer angle - like fully to the left while bike is on the side stand).

Well right now the bike isnt on a stand its just in my garage parked regularly, but even when i start up the bike pull it out, no matter what position the throttle seems to stay sticky.

i meant on the side-stand (bars turned to full steer on the left sometimes pinches the cable routing).
did you check the grip itself also ?

Im completely new with all this motorcycle stuff hahaha, i honestly have no idea what to do lmfao.

what bike is it ?
all stock or any mods ?

the grip is easy to check, it's the rubber grip part of the throttle. sometimes when the grip or really reefed on or if a bike is tied down on a truck/trailer the rubber grip gets slightly shifted, but it's enough that will rub agains the left side of the throttle where the cables come out on the left of the grip preventing it from returning to the closed position smoothly.

cable rounting are the two throttle cables that come out of the throttle, they usually route left from your handlebar and then down through the forks and somewhere in towards and under the airbox. this can get binded up depending on things getting moved around durring maintenance etc. just check with by turning the steering from side to side if the cables get really tight or tugged on while turning the steering.

Mine did that too when I changed the grips and bar ends. Make sure the inside of the grip isn't rubbing against the kill switch housing and the outside isn't rubbing on the bar ends.

Its a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 400r which is all stock, ill try out turning the bike to see if it pinches right now. Thanks

I'd first just take the grip off, reinstall and see if you have the same issue. A quick shot of air should help remove the rubber grip from the bar. Air compressor - blast between the bar and the grip and work it off.

Stuff to check:
· bar ends
· grips binding on bar and or control housing
· throttle cables

My throttle cables frayed, big time, and wouldn't retract into the cable assembly. I can't imagine that would have happened in the short three month ownership last riding season; it must have been a gradual development over the course of the bike's life. Luckily, cables are cheap. Unfortunately, waiting on backordered cables sucks. Replacing is easy enough if you're comfortable working around the bike.

But if you're not just take it in since it's still under warranty.

Try something simple like lubricating the cable before heading to the shop. Does it feel smooth or notchy and rough when you open the throttle?

Well the thing is i would try these things, but i dont want to touch it just yet as if i do something to it and take it into the shop under warranty, they might not fix it saying u already touched it and screwed it up lol

How badly does the throttle stay open ?
Do you have a friend that can maybe help look at it ?
If it's really stuck open would not be safe to ride it like that.

If it is under warranty and you aren't sure about what to do or about what people are giving you options to look at then just take it in to the mechanic, problem solved.

Since you are in Brampton, there are several forum members in Brampton, maybe someone help?

Sounds like a very simple fix - maybe your cable just needs to be adjusted?

Im sure a ton of ppl would be willing to help if you buy them a coffee!

If your out riding around in Brampton, say hi!
