Statefarm going to cancel my insurance what can i do?

so my broker told me that i have 2 tickets and that if i get another one i will loose my motorcycle insurance with statefarm.

I have one policy under my name, my motorcycle insurance with statefarm.

I am also a primary driver under my dads policy for one of his vehicles.

my problem is that i just got another ticket.....

so if statefarm finds out (I will do my best to postpone the conviction :D) and they cancel my insurance on me, will it reflect badly when I try to apply for insurance with other companies???? i seem to recall them asking have you ever had a policy cancelled on you.

IF so this seems to be a REAL PROBLEM, insurance is expensive enough as it is.
Will i have to get insurance from those high risk insurance brokers? will this affect future AUTO policy i may have under my name.

how long will this affect me? will i have to answer yes to that question everytime i get a quote?

Here is my situation, i got my bike AND MY M1 mid season meaning only some of my premiums have been used around 32% according to other posts ive read here. So if i decide to cancel retain the remaining 68%. This would also save me from statefarm seing my conviction since ill be filing for court sometime this week.

Is this a good idea? That way i will never have been cancelled apon, and if i ever want to go back to statefarm and they say no you have 3 tickets its not like its NO you have 3 tickets and we've cancelled a policy on you as well.

something i just thought of, this is the first time ive gotten insurance by my self and also my m1, after the first year insurance should be cheaper yes?

does this make any sense?

Okay
1st off your 2 other tickets are from when? if they are nearing 3 years, (say one is expiring next year)
Just fight this one, conviction will be later and it wont appear on file until you're convicted (ideally until one of the other 2 expire) and you're home free.

Otherwise, just fight it, make it postponed as much as possible until your policy expires and then dont renew the policy, that simple.

It WILL affect your car insurance as a ticket on your drivers license is a ticket on your drivers license.

Good luck and drive safe

If you "just got another ticker" apply for your trial within 15 days of getting the ticket. The trial will likely be 6 months down the line. 10 weeks before trial request disclosure. It takes 6 to 8 weeks to get it. If you get it 8 weeks later, you have 2 weeks to prepare your defence. Tight I know. But if they lag, then you bought yourself another 3 months when you adjourn because you have not received disclosure. If you're lucky, the adjournment will be bumped further down than 3 months and you may pull off a "stay". You may get even luckier and the cop doesn't show, so the adjournment isn't even necessary.

Worst case you buy yourself 6 more months of using up your insurance, and you cancel immediately after you lose your trial before insurance gets a chance to check your abstract at renewal time. If you win or get adjournment, you are in the clear or bought more time. Yet another opportunity for the cop to miss the trial!

Best case, the cop doesn't show or the courts fumble it somehow on a technicality and you get off.

Of the last 5 tickets I have received, every time I have requested disclosure and eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevery single time, it has not been given to me! I have never once received disclosure when I have asked for it! You got a damn good chance at delaying this for 9 months even if you are dead to rights guilty and can't mount a defence.

Oh and BTW, of the last 5 tickets, 3/5 the cops didn't show. Once they showed and dropped the ticket after discussing with the prosecutor (it was for an invalid sticker), and once they showed but the Justice bungled the trial so badly, an appeal has been granted. You would be surprised how it plays out! Your chances are good.

Follow the advice of the people above who get lots of tickets, and then follow my advice, which is to stop getting tickets.

Stop getting tickets is the best advice of course. But he is in deep like some of us already.

You also have 1,762 posts, and an undisclosed amount of tickets and snappy sass. All the more convincing.

thank you for your replys.

The best advise so far is stop speeding. but to be honest, i was on my way home from the bank which is like 600m away. it was a straight drive down kingston rd and i got stopped at bellamy and eglinton. AT A RED LIGHT, they pulled me to the side. 2 cops, one on the Laser :(....

the whole time i was thinking. GREAT after trying soo hard to find a good broker with a decent enough quote i get dropped because of a 30 second ride home.

Now i dont mind stalling the conviction, not at all.
My problem is, my insurance renews july 11...thats a long time to stall for. ALSO all the stalling i will be doing are going to be in NON riding months. August is almost done, going to rain this whole week. So 2 weeks left, but look at the weather this month, it rained more days than it hasnt. Sept doesn't look to promising either.

my main question, how bad does it look to other companies that ive been dropped by insurance?
thats what im worried about the most. when they ask, have you ever been dropped by insurance, they never say a timeframe. Will i be branded for life?

There are only two things that you can do:

1) Delay the ticket to the point that you still only have two on your record, once convicted of this one.

... or...

2) Don't get convicted of this ticket.

As far as I know, your insurer will still be able to see you have been ticketed before it even goes to court. So there doesn't even need to be a conviction for them to use it against you.

Many, many years ago I got nailed with a careless driving. It hadn't gone to court yet (it was thrown out, by the way), but it didn't stop Co-Operators from quadrupling my insurance for it anyway. Didn't matter that I wasn't convicted, that the ticket went away and it disappeared. They still stood their ground on the ridiculous rate. So unless the system has changed since then, State Farm is still able to see you've gotten that 3rd ticket.

It's situations like that in which you contact the ombudsman for the company and the FSCO, to see if what they're doing is permitted.

i really appreciate everyones reply's.

However if there are any brokers that can comment on how bad it looks on you if you get a policy cancelled on you..

my best case scenario is not to get convicted, but chances of that are slim. i will most likely get a plea bargain and a conviction is a conviction is a conviction is a conviction.

i just want to know if its worth even delaying, or should i just cancel the policy. retain the 68%...and start my search for a new insurance company.

What keeps me at ease is that I know of people who have had 4 tickets( in some cases 4+) and State farm never checked their abstract in years. Unless you change the vehicle or add another to your existing insurance, they are very unlikely to check it.

hate to burst your bubble, and dont quote me on this but i think its someones job within SF (whether its the agent or someone from HO) to check policies/drivers abstracts 6 months in... if someone could confirm this. I know thats how it is with auto policies, as confirmed by my buddy.

I tend to believe this aswell. problem is when i get my m2, they will want to hear about it at which point when they update this on there systems, the underwriters may check my abstract.

They dont check when they update for M2. Apparently they didnt give a rats *** when i told them i have my m2. Trust me they wont check it within a year. at least not after 60 days.

Besides this, does anyone know of paralegals who can get the last ticket off my record? Trial is in November.....cant afford to have another ticket. Willingly to pay 300-400$ to have it dropped. Suggestions please

Don't forget this other little gem.....

Insurance companies hate when there has been a break in coverage. For example if you apply for new insurance and they ask how long have you had consecutive coverage. At least State Farm charges you extra if you didn't have insurance for any period of time, like say a month. Even when I thought I would be between vehicles for a time and figured I would end my coverage and then start again with a new vehicle later, SF assured me this would mean a premium increase due to the break.

They looooooooooove finding ways to jack the price!

That being said, I have also found SF lax in checking abstracts. At one point I only had 1 ticket on my record and asked the hypothetical about bringing a new car on my policy. They said if you have a ticket the car being brought on will be at a high rate, but if you don't make a major change to your policy we wont check your abstract and we wont notice the ticket.

Since then I have had another ticket (which I am appealing) but the MOT has not removed or noted that on my abstract. SF hasn't noticed yet noticed. That came on in May and I should have it removed by January so even if they check it will have been gone by renewal time.

My gut feeling is renewal with SF is an auto-generated thing and they don't bother auditing.

The local insurance experts can chime in, but I don't believe that they're allowed to ding you for lapses of less than one year.
