state farm ridiculous

so i just purchased a KTM 640 super moto, a 625cc bike. Up to now i've owned 1L bikes and even then SF was the best to deal with....They wanted $136 a month to insure the KTM....thats nuts

Jevco and TD primmum quoted me in the $650 range. I went with TD because get this...they dont bill equal months. Unlike SF which you pay equally throughout the year but use up your coverage the most in summer months TD actually charges you the usage. So for me to insure the bike from now until January when they renewals are will cost me $119. How can i pass that up...oh and on tuesday SF will be getting a call from me to cancel EVERYTHING i have with them, the motorcycle and house insurance.
I only stayed because i had a great broker who always took care of me, but he's gone to allstate.

I would not do that, it will put a flag/ bad note on your record.

This comes as a big surprise to me - I always thought that SF would only cover a motorcycle if you already had your car with them.

When I called to ask for a quote a few years ago, I asked if they will insure a bike alone or if they need a car on the policy too - the agent said that I have to bring my car also. I stated that there's no point proceeding with the quote, because I don't own a car. She said something like "Why don't we do the quote so that you'll know what we can do for you when you get a car?" I told her that I wasn't going to waste my time with a company that doesn't want my business.

I never had any idea until reading this that tied selling is not legal in Ontario. What an eye-opener.

I too had pretty good rates on 1000cc sportbikes with SF, but when I bought my KTM supermoto, they wanted the same price for the KTM as I had paid for a GSXR1000. I went to Primmum/TD and saved almost $650/yr

what would be the red flag? that i switched to someone else? Its not like i'm doing a dine and dash, i've been with SF for over three years now.

that person is confusing it with them cancelling you for non-payment etc. you calling them up and cancelling is fine as long as you keep with the agreement of cancellation.

Minior hijack:Any of you know SF's categorization for minor / major speeding tickets? Are they one of those insurance companies that class 30kph+ as a major, or just 49kph+ as a major?
49+ is major with them, I asked.

That's what they're counting on.

I think we have the same agent, or should I say, HAD the same agent at SF. He called me to tell me he was leaving to allstate and that he appreciated the business but had to move on etc etc.
I'd go with him just because he made everything so hassle free and proper straight from the get-go.
