Sprockets???

The killer needs new chain and sprockets. Looking at F9 and as always too much choice.
Jt / Sunstar / Bikemaster / Kimpex ?????
Any of these brands better or worse than the other?

DID VO O-ring chain. A reasonable choice??

Not looking to start an "oil" thread just get a head's up.

I've always liked Sunstar, though have used D.I.D. and RK and JT happily.

The only ones I've been warned away from are the hybrid aluminum and steel sprockets from companies like Supersprox. It sounds ideal in theory, but apparently most are actually heavier than plain steel units.

Interesting, would not have expected that

If you're sticking with the stock number of teeth, the OEM Kawi sprockets have the best reputation for wear. Otherwise I've used Sunstar in the past with good success.

Rocky Mountain ATV has combo deals on Primary Drive brand chains/sprockets that seem to be well regarded on the KLR forums. Not sure on shipping costs. Primary Drive Steel Kit & X-Ring Chain

I don't like to spend time or energy cleaning/lubing my chain so I just get OEM sprockets and a DID x-ring unit and forget all about it (except for tension of course). I typically get about 20,000km out of a chain and the only time I clean/lube it is before putting the bike away for the winter.

My lube routine is sketchy at best. I got about 30k out of this set. Last summer returning from a trip north we stopped for the night and found that buddies chain was starting to spit off a number the rollers. That's getting full value out of the chain!

I found that my Suzuki DL650 V-Strom got 22000 miles (~36000 kilometers) from a chain, so at
that mileage, I bought a new chain and a new front sprocket AND REVERSED THE REAR SPROCKET.
There was a slight asymmetry in the rear sprocket, requiring me to provide five washers to make things even,
but I always got 44000 miles or about 71000 kilometers from each of three rear sprockets.
This is not a major economy, and what I understand of chain theory supports my practice,
which worked out fine for me. Consider it for yourself.

If you wish to consult with a true wizard of chain maintenance on a V-Strom, you want to chat with V-Tom.
I do not know if he uses the same handle here, but that is how he names himself on the Stromtrooper site.

Coincidences happen. I have a date to lunch with V-Tom tomorrow, right here in Sarasota Florida.
Howzat???

Salos Dafee

P.S. Yup, the V-Tom I mention is the same fellow on both boards.
