Spring?? WHo's got their bikes out .....or never put them away

Call them up and see if they can issue temp insurance for the weekend.

Naw they closed at 5 and I called them at 430 there was no time to set up anything. The bike might still find itself out of the garage this weekend tho ;)

EDIT: I just found a replacement for the plastic piece that broke when the bike fell for $34.95 on ebay. So, score! I think I broke the cheapest part on the whole bike lol

Amen to that. Went home at lunch and traded the car for the bike. Chilly ride back to work. Lucky I have Oxford heated grips. Those things rock.

TWN says it's 3oC right now. They called for a high of 11oC. We'll see how close we get to that...
Yeah ive got a heated vest, makes a whole lotta difference. Cause then the core pulls less hot blood from the extremities

I took mine out this afternoon at about 1 PM (just as the sun broke through).
Didn't go far or especially fast. Just a quick trip to make sure the battery was charged, the existing fuel was still good etc.
Everything was OK.
Forgot one thing, the winter gloves.
Summer riding gloves did OK for about half the trip, then had to stop at Timmy's to get a small cup to warm the fingers.

Well the bike is out of storage. Got caught by a sudden snow this year, put it away with half tank of fuel, no stabilizer, and left the battery in. Fired up instantly, didn't grenade! Went for a quick rip, feels good to be back in the saddle. Definitely going out tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be epic for weather. Going to hit the back roads at the crack of dawn!

Gonna be chilly. Just got back myself, still 3 degrees out and the tires were starting to get slippery on the ashphalt with the dew (and cold) and even with all my gear I was starting to get nipply. Ride safe, might want to wait a little after the crack of dawn. ;)

Well, the safety is all done. She passed with flying colors.

However, on the way there tragedy struck!

My poor bike fell over in the trailer :'(

Anyways the real tragedy is that my insurance company wont be able to get my insurance started until monday :'(

That's crappy on a few aspects, but glad the part was cheap.

What insurance company couldn't write your policy over the phone? Both my car insurance (BelAir) and bikes (Dalton Timmis) are able to do everything over the phone without any delays or hassles, that's always been my experience. I put the coverage on my bike a few days before I even had it safetied and plated just to avoid any last second issues, but even if I hadn't it would have worked out anyways, but I wanted the coverage for the time it was at the shop etc.

Im with rider's plus. Theyre a little GTA based company that insures only motorcycles. Theyre pretty much the only real option for bike insurance when youre a young male. Theyre half the price of any other quotes I got.
They do have some weird ways of doing things though. Like to cancel my last policy with them, I called them and asked to cancel, and they told me I need write down that I want to cancel on a piece of paper, scan it, and email it to them.

Its the same with starting insurance with them. They email me some papers and I have to sign them and scan it and email it back.

Luckily Ive got one of those sweet all in one printers that has a scanner on it :D
Its a hassle but its literally half the price of anywhere else for someone my age. And their customer service is actually pretty good. I wouldnt be able to afford to ride if I went with a major insurance company.

I really shouldve called days ago and just set up insurance to start today. But I wasnt planning on doing the safety today, I was just bored and decided to get it over with. Was kinda spur of the moment. Did not plan everything very well. Which is probably why the bike ended up falling.
Im a little bummed about it because there is some scraping on parts I cant replace. Not super bad, I could probably still sell the bike as never dropped. But I'll know. Oh well, not that big a deal since Im planning on keeping this bike until it dies. Couldve been worse.

I was with Riders Plus previously and yes, I do remember that process now actually.

....the long term forecast for much of April looks positively sharty. Spoiled by such a nice winter only to be robbed in April? After tomorrow all of next week is forecasted to be barely above zero most days, the week after that only 5/6 degrees, still below normal.

My wife was supposed to be doing her motorcycle course this weekend at Centennial. Thankfully she was able to get it moved up a few weeks when I saw earlier in the week that there's cold weather and snow forecasted this weekend. The lady on the phone took issue with her request, stating that the courses ran no matter what the weather. Rain I can understand, but really...snow? A bunch of brand new riders on strange bikes doing evasive maneuvers in frost and snow? Seriously?

Yup... It's ********. We're basically have a long drawn out dry winter. It won't be proper riding season until May at this rate, the salt will be out in full force tomorrow evening.

She may have learned more in the cold rain or snow. I took race school in a down pour on a 500 two stroke, at first I was terrified. But I learned more that day than I thought possible. My first race win just so happened to be in the rain.

Just waiting for the snow to finish clearing. Bike is all back together, although I can't figure out why the battery charging cord doesn't appear to work. The jumper cable cord works fine. It was raining buckets and I was busy today or I would have taken her out for a test run. Maybe tomorrow. Supposed to be 13 with drizzle then.

They only cancel for serious ice or flooding, I think. Courses won't start here for a couple more weeks. There's still snow on the ground.

This weather... it's ***-backwards.

Admins almost need to change the title of the thread to "Spring?? So who's had their bike out....and had to put it back away again?"

only had my bike out for about 10 minutes a week ago. Weather is crap and they will be salting the roads again tomorrow.

I have to figure snow is on the list. Some of the maneuvers (emergency lane change, aggressive accelerating through turns, emergency threshold braking, etc) would be crazy for even an experienced rider to try in snow...a bunch of total beginners? Everybody and their brother would have all the bikes on their sides in no time, and passing several of the road test requirements at the end would be absolutely impossible.

The forecast now is wet heavy snow through the afternoon tomorrow and light snow on and off Sunday. Not to mention the temps - at least you can dress for those.

It *always* snows in April. Every year, without fail. Let's hope we get it out of the way this weekend :)

This time of year is bittersweet - No great weather for riding, snowsports or cycling, so I'm forced to stay in the house and take 'er easy... as I get older, I'm enjoying this more and more lol
