Spring motorcycle show

Not trying to start a forum fight.

But I'm just curious, What would make a good show and worth the $20 entrance fee.

You do if you want to go to the motorcycle show
True, But you don't need to go to the motorcycle show to get out of the house.

I'm in the market for some parts for a vintage Harley and maybe interested in another used bike. The used bikes for sale were pathetic (less than 15 bikes) and there was no parts to speak of (for any bikes). Seems like the samurai sword salesman, insurance brokers and beef jerkey vendors have taken over the show.

The 'classic bike' displays were pitiful.

The only way to cut jerky is with a samurai sword this creates the need for good insurance. It is the holy trinity of any event.

I feel that $20 is far too much for admission into any of these "shows". I've always wondered why they even charge admission to come to what is essentially an indoor flea market, with a few new vehicles on display.

The last show I attended was the Ski Show last fall. It was much smaller than previous years, but only $10 per ticket when bought online.

Probably a bigger problem...are people actually buying merchandise at these shows? Average joe probably not. So why am i going to hire & pay employees to haul gear that doesn't sell. Then pay again to rent the space.

Yes yes, exposure etc. However i'll bet no ones really hurting for foot traffic these days at their store location.

So i'd ask myself, what am i really supporting here?

Venue promoter has to fill the spaces and if GP, etc, etc isn't interested then whose gonna come...Joes Jerky Jerk will overpay for a smaller space? GREAT I can invite his entire family who have Jerky Jerk businesses and make some money back.

I think the retailers should pivot to showing off new tech (airbag vests/jackets, etc) and leave the merchandise in the shop.

This town is over consumer showed. It seems like there's one every weekend for something.
As far as motos go, maybe it's time for the 3 different promoters to kiss, make up and do one big show a year ?
Not likely to happen I know, but worth thinking about...
I might actually consider going if there was only one show manufacturers show sucks because the location others suck because they just suck

1968 - Bought a new Norton Commando at the show (old Automotive Building - I think)
Ernie White was the dealer - forget the shop's name (sold Honda's as well).

2018 - Bought a new Goldwing DCT Tour at the MMM show (Enericare Centre).
Lindsay Honda - picked the bike up on the last day of the long-time owner's tenure.

Give the International Centre a call and see what it costs to rent it. The amount of time and people it takes to put a show like this together. You have less and less retailers going to these shows because of costs and manpower and the competition of online retailers that have far less overhead and staff. Hence the shows are not as good as they were just a few years ago, but costs to put the on are even higher. Plus they are providing free parking which you don't get in a lot of venues.

Not my problem. If the rent is so high how did the Ski Show, also held at the International Centre, manage to operate and only charge $10 last fall?

The thing that gets me is that both the vendors and the public are paying the promoter who is operating the "show". The promoter then pays to rent the venue. At $20 a head they must be making a killing!

Parking fees are charged in the downtown areas because they can. The International Centre being located where it is, has to allow free parking because without that they would loose their edge over other venues. That, and there is little other choice on how to get there.

Did you get your ski show ticket a year in advance? I went last fall as well (total let down for me, entire "ski swap" was 50 pairs of the same skis a store couldn't sell) It was $25 at the door, or $20 online. I looked everywhere for discount code or coupon. Oh, and the $20 online price came to $24.99 with the fees they added on.

The ski show probably charged the vendors more for their booths. Perhaps the venue rental was less too, did it use as much space? Maybe they get more visitors, I would think they would given the popularity of skiing. More visitors would also justify higher booth costs.

The point being the promoters of these events don't just pick an arbitrary figure for admission or for the costs to have a booth, and they are entitled to expect a profit.

You don't have to go to these events if you don't think it's worth it and if enough people make that decision then it goes down the drain.

I went once many years ago when it was more of a big swap meet. Not much new stuff, plenty of wrecking yards and others selling used parts and it was in a much smaller venue. A long time ago though.
