Currently running BT023s and another rear is on order. Bridgestone is my rubber of choice on the bike and car.

Mich Pilot Road 3 - considering the weight of VFR and Blackbird.
I had 2 sets of Angel ST on my Blackbird and I use it to the cord faster than what I'm willing to pay for it.
PR3 is at 1.5 the mileage of the ST now and will have lots of life left on it.
Also more confidence on the PR3 vs the ST riding through rain, cold and even snow.

I've just picked up the Dunlop Roadsmart 2. They've been great for slab riding, have about 8k on them right now for mostly highway riding and they still look good. They're on my speed triple.
They've been really good in the rain and the profile is very smooth when riding on/off ramps.
This was my first sport touring tire: I've typically only used sport tires. I'm pleasantly surprised at how sporty these tires are and how well they've held up so far without flatspotting.

been loving my Roadsmart IIs but they aren't going to get the same life i got out of my BT-023s.

How much life did you get from the 23's?

My Roadsmart 2 front has about 10,000km on it and has tonnes of life left, rear has about 6000km and barely looks worn at all. Most of that 6000km was with full hard luggage too (Florida and back).

Hey guys, sorry to hijack the thread a bit...would these tire choices be suitable for my 250 as well? I'm at about 17,000km on the current tires (stock) and the rear is really starting to wear in the middle (not enough cornering skills for me! :( ) but the front looks good still. Do you think I should replace both front and back as a set? Or just the rear? Currently it has the stock IRC RoadWinners. Fairly happy with them but I don't really know better.

15,000km so far. plenty of tread left, guesstimate rear 30-40% and front 60-70% remaining. I find the BT023's warm up quickly (faster than the previous BT016's on my bike) and are plenty grippy on the streets. Never ridden in rain with these tires so can't comment.

what is the general consensus on putting sport touring tires ss litre bikes? I want a tire that will last longer as I commute alot on my R1, but when reading some reviews from people with ss litres they seem to lose some traction with these tires due to the torque?
Anybody else experience this?

I started using ST tires on my GSXR1000 6 yrs ago. Never regretted it, or needed more tire for spirted street riding.

Won't go back to hypersport tires.

%

ST tires offer 80% of the grip, and 200%-300% of the lifespan. Economically, it's not even comparable.

I've been on the pirellis , the michellins and the bridgestones .

If you want dry handling, the bridgestones are the best and never lost shape throughout the whole time. They are amazing at the track (yellow)! I am not comfortable with them when the road is wet or dirty though, also way to squirrely in gravel.

Pilot road 2's lastest the second longest for me.

The Road3 and Angel St are the best 'over all' tire imo. They have a flatter profile and great wear. Good in crap roads and even gravel. I took both to the track and I was doing fine in yellow.

I'm on angel gt right now which reminds me a lot of the angel st and road 3. Pirelli saying this tire lasts the longest so I'm testing that claim.

Z8s are available, I have them on my bike. They were purchased and installed at Budds BMW in June by the the previous owner. After 2 500kms I can say that they are pretty nice, howver unable to evaluate as I have not experienced another tire on the bike. However on my FZ1 , PR2/3 were my favouite tires.

I recently found this article to be a handy reference - was asking myself basically the same question. It's in German but Chrome translated it close enough to be readable - one thing you have to keep in mind is that the article tested a newer formulation of the Z8, and I don't think I've seen it available here yet.

"a newer formulation of the Z8"

Going by these:

You should be ok. The only time my rear breaks loose is when it is too cold outside (5c and lower). Our torque numbers are pretty close.

The tires are rated Z (theoretical speed the tire can take is higher than what your bike can do). I've had the Angel ST on for 14,000kms and have scraped almost every inch of the tire. I've never lost traction while cornering or WOT.

I did some research on sport touring on SS bikes before as well, I have no clue how crazy those guys that said they lost traction were riding but I'd imagine it's at race pace if they did.

And for the record, I actually lost traction more times on sport tires in the cold than I did with the Angel STs.

I got 14,500 kms out of my PR3s on a 500 lbs sport bike. I commute, do weekend spirited rides & try to get 1 or 2, 3-day trips in each year. At the end, the front was cupping and the rear was down to the wear bar, somewhat squared off. I liked the tires for the same reason every one else does, but I found that by around 10,000 to 11,000 kms, they weren't as responsive and I didn't have the same confidence in the corners.

I switched them up for M5s before this year's trip to PA (I put the PR3s on just before last year's trip), and I found a noticeable improvement in performance. They also gave me the confidence to get lower (and I think faster) in the corners. My chicken strips on the PR3s were around 1/4 to 3/8". The M5s got down to almost nothing. I've got 7,000 kms on the M5s now, and the rear is done. The front has at least half its tread left, so I'm switching up the rear for another M5. Performance and confidence lasted right to the end.

Figuring Pete's prices:

PR3 - Rear $194, Front $140, Shipping $26, Install $90 = $450
M5 - Rear $141 x 2, Front $100, Shipping $26 + $15, Install $90 + $45 = $558

For me, its worth the extra $108 to get the improved performance of a sport tire, especially when the PR3s started fading about 2/3 the way through their life span.
