Spence Diamond buy back policy

Things like this make me realize the correct way to propose to my girlfriend would be to use an onion ring. We would both get to enjoy it after as a delicious snack!

Or find a girl who doesnt care about a ring. Personally all I would do is start wearing a ring I already have on that finger as a 'back the **** off' sign for any guy who thinks he has a shot.

Hello Kuro,

I am writing to you from the Spence Diamonds Store Support Center. Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experience, with regards to our buy back policy. We really appreciate your feedback, and this opportunity to resolve your situation.

Based on our buy back policy outlined in our Spence Guarantee, you are indeed correct in that we will buy your center diamond back from you for exactly what you paid for it. We will gladly honor our buy back policy, whereby you are entitled to what you paid for your center diamond, minus the setting fees, semi-mounts with other diamonds, or sales tax.

We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly about the details of your purchase, Kuro. Please contact me at communications@spencediamonds.ca to discuss this further. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Jennifer

Has anyone ever utilized the buy back policy at Spence diamonds?

I'm trying to make use of their buy back policy on a ring I purchased way back. Their policy is/was that they'll buy back the "centre" diamond at the price you paid for it.

I was told:
I would be getting back $xxxx.xx.
I don't get the ring back even though they are only buying the centre diamond back
I don't get the side diamonds back either

Today they call me up and say "back in 2008 when you purchased this ring, we gave you a $350 discount because the diamond you requested wasn't in stock, so we gave you a .000000001ct bigger diamond. Corporate has told us we cannot give you back $xxxx.xx because you didn't pay full price for that diamond. Your refund will be $xxxx.xx minus $350."

WTF!! Does this make sense? Doesn't their policy state that they'll refund me the price of the centre diamond at the price I paid for it ?? Does it matter that they gave me a discount?

I've tried looking for their buy back policy online but I can't find the details about it. They took all my paper work that came with the original ring (including the policy). I didn't think anything of it cuz I didn't think they'd try to rip me off.

Anyone with experience can give me some advice?
I don't think I'm SOL, but I'm not sure how to argue with someone who will most likely tell me repeatedly like a drone "Thats our corporate policy"

Guys just think that's more of a challenge...

As per another post:

You: "I have a husband"
Guy: "I have a stuffed platypus"
You: "What?"
Guy: "I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about things that don't matter..."

Wow, you came on a motorcycle forum romper room to reply to my message. Thanks?

I've been in contact with the local Spence store. Unfortunately been unable to catch the manager at the right time. I'll email you regarding this matter.

You know what they say about making the same mistake twice?

Quiet you, I'm trying to atone for my people's sins against a redhead...

No no no. Maybe I explained it wrong.

Lets just say the diamond I "requested" was $2000. So they couldn't find the one I requested and they gave me a new one thats 'worth' $2350, but I still pay $2000. So they wrote that this was a discount that they applied to keep at the same price that I was willing to pay.

Now they are saying I won't even get my $2000 back but they are giving me back $1650. This is more or less the situation I am in. Sorry if I was unclear.

Heres their policy.

Kuro, i been making jewellery and selling diamonds for 15 years, i know everything there is to know. First and foremost let me say this. Next to the auto mechanics industry the jewellery industry is the most crooked industry you will find. Even the most reputable jewellers sell you crap and tell you its good. Buyers do all their diamond research online and think they know it all and the ones who do all the homework end up getting burned more sometimes. For the consumer its real hard to avoid its how the sellers make the money. They sell you something you know nothing about and take advantage of your lack of knowledge. Now people go online to learn but what you learn online is 1/4 of the whole story

What spence is telling you is a trick. There is not much you can do about it unless you make a "scene" and force them into it. The fact they told you it's .000001 ct more is total BS.

1.0 carat = 0.2 grams
.00000001 = something they can never measeure like weight of an atom??

Spence and all the other jewelers come off saying we are wholesalers our prices are this and that. Its all lies. I make jewellery for jewellers i know what things cost. I regularly sell everything at half the price soence does. So that shows you what kind if wholesaler and manufacturer they are.

They tell you that they will buy back in full but they NEVER do. There is so many trade tricks used. The jewellery tradde mark ups are masssive. And there is all kinds if fake or "clarity enhanced diamonds" being sold and they are not even telling the buyer about it. Just overall dirty business. Some one bought a diamond necklace from a jewellery store and they were all cubic zirconias and its a big chain company too.

In fact i might open a thread on here called "ask me anything you want about diamonds and jewellery" to help people from getting ripped and provide all sorts of information.

Do you do freelance work for non retailers? I'm looking to have 60 to 80 small canary diamonds put in two pendants of mine. Not asking about price, just If you would do the work for a consumer.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm clarifying the matter with Spence before commenting further on my situation.
They sounded pretty convincing and had me second guessing myself whether I really remembered wrong on the receipt.
I've requested the refund to be halted and my receipts returned so I can re-verify everything.

As for the 0.0000001ct, that was just an exaggeration. Basically they said they switched my diamond with a near identical one that costs more. Although I don't remember them telling me them doing this, but it was about 4 years ago so I may have forgotten.

About the zirconias ... that is just ... low.
