Speeding tickets do, but the red light cameras do not.

Since these speed camera do the same as the Red Light cameras (according to your link) then they take a picture of your plate and fine the driver. But since they can't prove you are driving the vehicle in question it should not effect your driving record or your insurance.

LOL the broadview and Danforth speedtrap is a ****ing joke, you see these clowns sitting there wasting time when that road is backed up halfway up the Bloor viaduct most of the time, due to that pedestrian right of way thing infront of the DVP onramp. I can't believe they pay these morons to "serve and protect" like this especially when you often see 2-3 cruisers there..... absurd.

I for one and all for speed camera's. Nice and reliable, always in the same spot. I mean, try getting away with shooting an officer in the eye with a paint ball gun.

The speed trap didn't cause this crash. The rider did through his lack of control over his bike. This guy clearly could not handle his vehicle sufficiently well at his speed to deal with what may have appeared in front of him at that speed. There I was, driving my car on the 400 North when I spotted a police cruiser hiding under an overpass. Do you know what my first instinct was? I slammed on the brakes. HARD. In the interest of full disclosure I cannot be completely certain of my original speed, but I was in the right lane going much slower than the left lane traffic, so at most I was doing 105-110km/h. I was lucky nobody was following me, because I slowed down to about 50km/h as fast as my car could manage. Those of you who know what car I drive will realize that is very quick.

Did the speed trap cause the crash in the OP's picture? I don't know, I wasn't there. But when people are more afraid of the cops than they are of trucks, cars, pedestrians, deer, moose, potholes and other obstacles that may appear in their paths, I'd say there is a bigger issue at hand. I personally find I spend more time looking ahead trying to spot speed traps than I am watching out for real threats.

Most people who habitually drive at speeds at or at least close to the limit would have no instinctive "need" to slam down hard on the brakes when they see a cop.

You "instinctively" slammed on the brakes to drop to 50 kmph in a 100 kmph highway zone just because you saw a cop ahead? That suggests that the real issue is with the way you habitually drive, and not with the fact that a cop might be ahead doing speed control. That suggests that you are the real danger on the road, and not the cop. Were you to drive at speeds closer to the limit, perhaps you would be able to pay more attention to the traffic and real threats around you than seems to be the case now according to your own words.

First instinct should have been to look in your rear then break a bit. Why on earth would you drop down to 50km/hr on the 400? Are you trying to kill youself??? You caused that situation not the cruiser "hiding" under the overpass.

In regards to speeding, anyone in this city who says they obey the speed limit on the highway is either full of it or they are the one holding the entire highway up. RARELY have I seen people driving at the posted limits on our highways, those that do hold the thing up like nothing else. The person on the road going slower than everyone else is at a much higher risk of an accident than those going faster.

Not that I'm condoning this behavior :wink: but tyres and gasoline seems to be the preferred method in some parts of England in dealing with the speed cameras. Some images have ribbons attached to the cameras to alert drivers to their presence.

Even when everyone is doing 80km/h on the highway and theres a cop on the side of the road 99% of people will slam on their brakes...
 
I don't, I know how fast I'm travelling and what the speed limit is. If I'm going over I still don't slam on the breaks. I take my foot of the gas and might tap on the breaks a bit but never slam.(the tapping is more to warn others behind to slow down.) We all know the consequences of speeding, so why put others at harms way by slamming on your breaks. Accept you might get a ticket if you're doing something illigal.

I'm that crazy guy driving 100km/hr IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE. If I see a cop I smile knowing that I'm perfectly fine. There was a time when I sped like crazy. But you know what, it's not worth it. Driving the speed limit will greatly impact you fuel efficiency and save money from a lack of speeding tickets. Win win there.
