Another round?

I'm not gonna pretend I'm fully read into the situation, but the swift parliamentary nullification of martial law seems re-assuring

Maybe. Who does military listen to (both legally and with their heart)? Worst-case is military fractures and some side with each team.

Not good. My limited understanding is that the president is a right-wing type, but recent parliamentary elections swung the other way, leading to a lame-duck situation, with this being an attempt by the president to hang onto power. Did parliament nullify it? I read an hour or two ago that it was possible, but it's a fast-moving situation.

S Korea is still technically at war with N Korea, and S Korea is relatively new to democratic government (1980s).

they did overturn it in The Assembly

If they go civil war , North Korea will be over the wall in a heartbeat . This is not good .

Apparently the parliament vote to block martial law was 190-0. Seems to me that the president is done, it just hasn't sunk in yet.

There is a subtext there, though. Parliament has 300 members - so 110 didn't show up. However the vote took place at 1:00 AM, and it was convened without much notice, so maybe that doesn't mean a *lot*.

This BBC article has a pretty good summary of the overall situation: Why has South Korea's president suddenly declared martial law?
