LOL...you can get a 60 inch for less than $4K. Does the extra 20 inchs really needed?

Can't u just get a projector?

Yeah, it's a proof of concept technology. Spend a quarter of the price for a nice panel, not a billion pixels.

The TV resolution race is looking a lot like the megapixel race with cameras a few years ago.

Who cares. Nothing is going to support 4k for a whiiiile. Hell cable and satellite providers don't even support 1080p yet.

It makes sense for the 60"+ TVs. I have installed an 70" and 80" Sharp and they don't look all that amazing because of the size of each individual pixel. So 4K is a good thing for them, but like most things in electronics it never pays to be an early adopter. Wait until something actually supports it and there is content in 4K and then think about it. By then the TVs will be 5k and possibly worth it.

There's never too much resolution.

More pixels = bigger screen for shorter viewing distance

But content is the limiting factor, of course.

I imagine with a 4k TV and content you can sit 5 feet away from a 70" screen and be blown away.

And this might just spark another media format race..... BD won't be good enough for these 4K TVs... so there will have to be 4K movies/games being created.

But hell, you can't argue against technological progress even if it is absurdly priced.

The ONLY way you'd be able to use all those pixels is if you were to use it as a computer monitor. Even then, you'll need a hell of a video card to properly take advantage of the extra pixels.

Unless you happen to have a RED cam with the 4k expansion card... but that just opens up the problems of workflow and output format...

Is there anything really worth watching anymore??

There wont be any new physical media formats. Internet based content delivery has already taken over. Why go to the store when you can buy/rent a movie from your couch for cheaper?

I forget what make it was, but Costco Ancaster had an 80" tv on display. LG? Samsung? It wasnt sony or sharp or panny.

It looked freakin amazing and only around $4g's.

I live near Bay Bloor Radio, and pass their Sharp 80" LED that's on display almost everyday. Things HUUUGE
