Sometimes a moment of "stupid" happens...

my old boss fell for this. Bought the projector, screen, amp, and speakers for $800. All of it was brand new in the box. Seemed shady, but he didn't care.

419 made in Toronto ... LOL

The Nigerians would laugh at the amateurism of a Toronto scammer.

guy at work got hung with this,
buddy has van with 4 sets of speakers from "bar that closed before they even finished installing the sound system"
gets shown cerwin vega speakers, loads up sealed box saying "cerwin vega", takes home heavy sealed box and opens it up to find a pile of old Ikea particleboard shelves and styrofoam.

Looking on the bright side, at least he didn't get rocks

Sounds like the makings for some speakers. What was he missing, the IKEA instructions, the allen key?

.........

I never heard of this scam before. I live under a rock.

So have a good laugh!!! I thought I was too smart for this ****, I really did..then this happens...FACE-PALM!

My rule of thumb is, if there isn't an established store where I can come back and give them crap if anything goes wrong, I walk away.

My friend fell for this about 8 years ago. He called me up trying to sell them to me after the fact. He tried to sell them to me for $800. I laughed at him and asked how much he paid. He saod he paid about $300 and was told they were worth thousands, so he figured he would just make an easy buck off them.

He got what he deserved for trying to scam me after he got scamed.

So you have never bought a used motorcycle?

If you google "rule of thumb" you'd be surprised how much leeway it gives. Not a legally binding document.

I was in a parking lot and a guy pulls up with some "good stuff" to sell. Sadly it wasn't weed...**** that would have been fine...

So the story goes he does deliveries and in home installations of home theatre and he got "extra" this morning and just finished the install. Before he takes his truck back to the office he wants to sell the accidently places equipment quickly for very cheap. Man these guys are such smooth talkers and everything looked legit, business cards, invoices man it all looks so right...

If you're falling for this kind of thing... you probably shouldn't be smoking weed!

When I was much younger and I couldn't afford anything decent I bought a pair out of the back of a navigator. Asked them to spare me the 'my boss story' and made a deal. Paid next to nothing and hooked them up to an old receiver that I got for free. I'm sure they actually sounded like crap but they looked cool and they were more than I needed at the time. I think that I eventually gave them away to my little brothers buddy who was in the same situation I was in when I bought them. I wouldn't touch them now but they were exactly what I wanted back then.
Moral of the story is ya, it's a scam in the sense that they're are not going to be as advertised, but they do work and at least you didn't buy a box of particle board!

Its not really a rule, its more of a guideline...................

Indeed, you are correct. "Thumb" being the main thrust rendering the rule flaccid but user friendly.

Have u ever bought a bike?

Yes, just not used. What's the point and relevance of your question(s)? Never mind about being completely unrated to the topic of the post.
