IMO part of the problem is the government using the police as revenue generators instead of law enforcers. Having limits to their time the cops will not bother with petty charges so you can get away with stuff today that would have had consequences when politicians could balance a budget.
As people get away with stuff they push the envelope.
People used to accept responsibility for their actions. Now it's whatever you can get away with. A bicycle, e-bike, pedestrian puts a gouge in the side of your car door. Try to get compensation from the perpetrator? Hah!
Petty theft, keyed cars, vandalism, trespassing, suck it up.
When do you stop sucking it up and how? The courts won't listen to you so vigilante justice steps in.
Those are just civil matters with unenforced laws in place.
Manners are a whole new subject.
P.S. Vigilante justice only works if you have the muscle. In the USA you carry a gun.

I understand where the guy was coming from and I sympathize, but that doesn't make it right. There's no reason we should be trying to validate what he did. Violence as cathartic release is always wrong. Part of the instant gratification illness in society. Expecting a perfectly just society is also a modern entitlement, divorced from reality, regardless of whether cops get involved or not. Another modern illness is extreme partisanship, so because we hate what she did we somehow have to justify the guy's actions? Please.
What he did was wrong. It should be as plain as day. And nothing to do with gender FFS!

I think we are somewhat in agreement. There are so many things wrong with vigilantism and its kin.
The hard part is developing a tolerance for A-holes without becoming one.
To be proactive, we could start complimenting others but thanking someone for using a turn signal would sound sarcastic.
Or alternatively when we do something a-holish to be honest with ourselves about it, independently from whatever the other person may have done wrong.
