So...what happened?

LOL.... some of your comments made me laugh out loud. All your employers contacted me and asked me to make sure you did some work on Monday....

The truth is that we exceed our 10TB limit so I had to up it. I work a full time day job so things like this take a bit of time as I have to handle when I get home from work.

Sunday I took a day off from all computers and went out and enjoyed a day of golf and dinner. Sorry all... thank you for your love and support of GTAM. The tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks Wingboy and Rob M for the messenger messages.

Doing a great job IMO and we all need time away. Hope you enjoyed it.

Wow. Thanks for the update. 10TB is pretty shocking to me. I'm assuming that's mostly hosted ad pics?

Keep up the good work.

It used to happen often when the board was in its heydays, so I smiled when I saw the error message come up again. :)

I felt guilty so I hit the tip jar. There are some actual good threads and posts on here. 🤣

Makes me wonder what the monthly bandwidth usage was like when we were numbering in the hundreds of active users, as opposed to the dozens today?

100 TB?
No possible way. 20gb would be a stretch, my guess is it’s closer to 10gb.

That server would need to be hosting about 1000 GTAMs to reach 10 terabytes.

Cutekill said we hit the 10tb limit. I would be looking at logs to figure out what kind of bot farm I was accidentally running as that seems crazy to me.

Even with a dozen or so regular posters and possibly 10x that many lurkers, we still hit 10TB a month:

The truth is that we exceed our 10TB limit so I had to up it.

When GTAM was at its heyday, I remember the user database being around 7K and we had a hundred+ daily posters, so I would think they would be at least 10x what we are doing these days, hence 100TB...

It’s not impossible, but 10tb is a very, very large amount of data.

You would have to stream all 73 Game of Thrones episodes 300 times, Or stream 1.4million tunes off Apple Music (would take 24 hours a day every day until 2034.).

Big number.

Robots and Spiders probably account for most of that traffic.

Check out the Who's Online page:

Right now it's less than 1 page members (<20 users), 18 pages guests (360 "users") and 3 pages robots (~60 bots)

Of the "guests", I'm going to bet that more than 80% of them are unannounced spiders and other web crawlers. Why else would anyone be reading a 2013 post about "Google Glass" on a Toronto motorcycle website?

Poorly configured bots tend to catalog the entire site rather than perform delta updates, and GTAM has a long archive of posts to download - and each bot probably downloads the entire site more than once a day.

Just looking through the Who's Online Bot list, I can already figure out which Bot probably accounts for the majority of traffic. A quick search online reveals:

I bet if GTAM blocks Semrush, their bandwidth usage would probably plummet quite dramatically.

I had the conversation with my server as there is no way we had a spike in members online. Let's see if my updates get rid of some of these bots.

Just an off chance possibility [and yes, it is illogical!], is the outage related to Verticalscope pulling out of Tapatalk [Tapatalk has been sold to a new owner]?
It is coincidental that the outage happened on the day that Verticalscope did their migration out of Tapatalk.

On that note, is this form available on the "Fora" app?

Thanks,
Chris <CJ>

VS tried to buy gtam years ago. Thankfully, CK and Paul didn't let that happen.

Enough time has passed since that I don't even remember why VerticalScope is/was bad anymore. I only really remember them hoovering up every motorsports enthusiast website they could get their hands on, and them making changes to Motorcycle.com that made it worse
