So someone tried to steal my bike last night. Suzuki GS500F 2006.

Thankfully it seems they had no clue what they were doing and just managed to completely destroy my key-lock-ignition barrel. my key doesnt fit anymore and so i can't use the bike. Now my poor bike is a paperweight. :( Do I call a locksmith? a mobile bike tech? suzuki? I assume I will have to get new keys made so maybe suzuki? it would have been a good day to ride too.

the bike is parked in an underground condo parking lot. 2 other bikes nearby with seemingly no damage. it has been reported to our building security and they are reviewing footage.

and its not like its a supersport (not belittling your bike) but... why would they steal a gs500f... parts?

this is making me scared for MY bike lol

for real! i don't know why they would want mine. there are much nicer and more expensive bikes in our condo lot. i put new tires on this season...? its in pretty good very clean condition? i have saddle bags on the thing and use it for commuting. people just suck.

post a picture of the lock mechanism. If it is horrible, you might have to take the trees off and put a whole new set in.

Was your bike insured ?

whew! rest easy, they're on it.

looks like the key mech needs changing.

Joyriders will steal any kind of bike. Maybe they picked on the GS500 because they knew for certain it wouldn't have an immobilizer. Maybe they were just practicing.

That really sucks, though. At least they didn't miss and smash anything else

yes im pretty sure i can change out the switch for less than 500$. anyone have a spare switch they want to sell?? :D

You will get the market value of your bike. Doesn't matter what you paid for it.

okay follow-up question:

I havent taken apart my triple tree in the past, and im wondering if i can even take it off with the steering lock still engaged? will the steering lock prevent the removal of the triple?

thanks!

You can get replacement cost of a new vehicle written into your policy when you buy new. It costs more and only lasts for a couple of years. Most bike policies do NOT offer this.

And the market value is base on what ground??Craiglist/kijiji????
