So whats with all these new apparel makers these days???

So many ive never even heard of in the last few years.

is it all just more China crap?

Just sold my green/black Alpinestars GP-R leather, was a fantastically made jacket. So very impressed with it. But it didnt match and i looked like skittles wearing it with an orange bike. Maybe im naive but coming from Joe Rocket stuff, the A* felt perfect. Way heaver and sturdy feeling.

Am I still right in saying A* and Dainese are my only real options for top shelf leather jackets?

can anyone speak on other brands?

sporty style.

Im looking at the A* GP PRO and some Dainese jackets...

I love AGV for helmets, can anyone opine on the AGVSPORT line? is it any good? There is a link on dainese website for AGVSPORT, are they related??

So the short list ~500

A* GP PRO
Dainese pelle
dainese sata monica

I cant seem to find any more...The A* has 2 more jackets that are out of my price range so screw that, and of course Dainese has many jackets approaching the 1000$ mark.

HELP

THANKS

Have a good look at Teknic as well. Small product line but their quality and function seems to remain the same as it was 10 years ago. After a recent Alpinestars purchase I would argue that their quality is as good as it was a few years ago.

I'm really happy with my Joe Rocket leather. the venting is really good, and the fit is excellent.

I just bought a used CORTECH perforated leather jacket and so far I'm very happy with it...it's still a little stiff as it's barely been used but I'm thinking that it'll loosen up a bit with time.

Look at Spyke top quailty stuff! not sure who carries it. Like most things you pay for quiality.

I get the impression that you're looking for a sport riding jacket, and if so, then A* and Dainese would be at the top of the pile. If you were looking for a cruiser jacket, then more options would open up for you. When I bought my jacket last year, I was tossing around the idea of Joe Rocket, but after seeing the quality difference with A*, it was an easy decision. I ended up spending more than I had initially wanted to on a Tech 1-R, but absolutely love it and feel very confident/secure riding in it. If I ever lose a few pounds, I'll be able to fit in a CE2 back protector and still be able to zip it up ;)

Still think the taichi GMX motion is the best sport riding jacket, pricey tho. Comes with CE Knox back insert, or at least my last gen version of the jacket did.

maybe was just my shape. they didnt fit right for me.

wow those taichi are really nice! same price as A* and Dain.

400-800

interesting...

poor time to be needing a leather, local shops have no stock

anyone have AGVSPORT?

I don't think you can put ASTAR at the top for quality, I'd say Rev-it is up there and possibly Dianese still, but most of these brands are all made offshore to similar spec. You'd have to really comb through every detail of each jacket to find who has the best features, but in most cases it just comes down to fit and style. I wouldn't say any of the top brands are poor, ICON, Rocket, ASTAR, etc, are all pretty similar.

I always felt Teknic and Icon were hooligan wear also cheaper made?
again totally biased here...

Teknic is classed as a level down from the fashionable brands by reputation. Spot on about the image of Icon.

But I will say I had an impossible time finding a good leather, over the counter jacket to fit me. It also had to move a LOT of air for hot weather.
All the jackets I tried created a tourniquet around my forearm or else they had a 60" waist. Perfect for all you Twinkie and Ho-Ho diet plan guys but no good for me.

The Icon Overlord jacket fits me perfect and is good for OVER 30 degree days. I LOVE this jacket.

There is a Canadian company, FX Star, makes good street wear as well. It's moderately priced in comparison to the bigger brands, but still has all the features and looks great. I wore one for the last 2 years, CE approved armor in all the right spots, good zippers, and removable liners and sections for airflow. I sold the jacket for almost what I paid for it, and got a Joe Rocket for this year. :)

Oh btw dont order taichi stuff from the USA, use the canadian distributor. You dont want to find out what the duty is on chinese textiles.

Dainese owns AGV.....top of the line....BEST

AGV helmets are very quiet with their drop chin and pointed back

Rev-it...great stuff

Riders Choice has what you need....open till 8pm on Thursdays

A* produce a wide range of models.....I would probably agree with you on some of their lower-end stuff, but their top-end stuff compares favourably with Dainese/RS Taichi, etc.

Just so I don't come across being biased I have a Shift textile jacket that I love as well for the quick in and out jaunts when it's a little chilly. I tried some of the Dainese ones on when i purchased the Teknic and found the fit of them for a person like myself to not be correct. Ultimately I recommend just getting the one that fits you best!

The pic below is for Teknic's Violator Jacket you will see that it's a lot of features for a sub $400 jacket in my opinion. I personally added the Knox BP which fits right in the jacket.
