Got the Limited style for a great price at Sturgess!

/shameless plug

So I got my first fix-it tickets this morning. Do I have a leg to stand on leaving it or should I just put the stock one back on there and try to get the ticket dropped? The other ticket was for my turn signal bulb, told him it was defective from the factory and he said to replace it and show the receipt to the prosecutor. All this during my 10 minute commute

HTA 13(2) Plate not plainly visible. He said 13(3) was a guaranteed conviction but he didn't use it cause he was cutting me a break

'Limited style' is tucked in all the way behind the rear wheel. The visibility can vary depending on the make/model of a bike, however at the most it's visible, BUT angled downwards.

People forget that springs compress when you sit on the bike, so even though it's visible when you're off the bike, if you (and a passenger) are on the bike, the plate usually disappears.

Macs, if that's your style of plate mount, then you're pretty much hosed. It would be difficult to argue that the plate is clearly visible at all, let alone from all angles. I'd recommend remounting the stock bracket and running with that, from now on.

Almost everyone running a fender eliminator will eventually be screwed, if police start ticketing for the lack of a mud guard instead.

That's what it looks like nfq. I don't have very much sag at all on my bike though so I'm almost positive it's visible. He just didn't like the location.

Also you got the wrong guy Rob :p

I guess it's not worth the headache and probable conviction

Maybe cause I'm old(er) now than I was before or just don't care for the plastic-y bits, I just leave it as near stock as possible. Like you said, not worth the hassle. Now it's more things that will make the bike more comfortable/faster/better for me (or at least my perception).

I have something similar but the passenger pegs are off. Never been bugged for it. An OPP came to check out my bike once and said "if someone's having a bad day, I'd be-careful of this". He even knew that it flipped.

Question is, what the hell is "all angles"? Because I don't have passenger pegs, unless you're underneath or above my bike, you can see it.

Picture any conceivable angle that a plate might be viewed from, when looking out the windows of a vehicle. Basically if it isn't at the very back of the vehicle, and vertical, then it can be ticketed.

I had the same set up as the OP. I actually asked an OPP Sergeant if mine was legal once. He'd pulled me for something else so I thought I'd raise the question. His comment back was "I had no proiblem running your plate." Mine was on a 1098 and the plate had a wear mark on it from where it contacted the rear tire.

It really all is in the eye of the beholder unfortuantely.

So, in other words, this really is based on the cop's mood -_-

If a cop is behind me, at any angle, they can see it.

I remember reading somewhere (not that I can find it now) that on a motorcycle technically it has to be mounted at the rear most point of the vehicle meaning it has to stick past the back of the bike. Hence the factory tails.

Or like some cruiser guys do - onto the swingarm, on the left side of rear wheel.

I believe it's also not legal to mount the plate like they do vertically when doing that. I could be wrong on that one and I gave up looking on the net for the exact law.

Strictly speaking, this location will be obstructed by the tire when viewed from the right rear.

Yes, I'm aware of a certain Harley-Davidson model that was apparently designed in this manner. If the original vehicle manufacturer built it a certain way, you are then in a position where you can say "that's the way the original manufacturer built it, and it conforms to Canadian federal motor vehicle safety standards as stated here (at this point, you show a picture of the bike's compliance label and a picture out of the brochure published by the manufacturer showing where they put it, and another picture of your bike with it the same way)<show picture="" of="" the="" bike's="" compliance="" label="">. It's not my fault that you didn't build your 407 cameras to accommodate this production vehicle" or something of that sort. Certain SUV's with tailgate-mounted spare tires and license plates have a similar situation.

But if YOU created this situation by building something yourself, then the onus is on YOU, and you had better not leave any loopholes for interpretation.

It's not worth mucking around with fenders and license plates and lighting. If you insist on fiddling with it due to some other custom work on the bike, then make it "factory appearing". Make it "look stock to a cop".</show>

Sorry but what are fenders and fender eliminators??

Google images didn't show me much, or maybe I just wasn't looking at the right spots.
