So I have found a replacement bike...

My Sabre v45 has been giving me too many problems lately so I have been looking for a replacement bike. Found a 1988 Kawasaki ZX-10 in Kingston. Would anyone from GTAM be willing to come look at it with me? I have no idea what to look for on a chain drive bike (ie: chain slack, etc)

me thinks you might need to sweeten the pot a little, ya know, actually make it tempting for someone to go

wink wink, nudge nudge.........

I'd be interested in the ownership linage and if the proper maintence can be proven. A 20+ year old bike with tons of power is generally enjoyed ALOT. Then it get's parked until it's sold again or the owner get's their licence back. I'd size up the owner and what they tell you to help understand the history of the bike.
I'm not sure changing from an 80s Sabre to an 80s Kawi is going to help improve the maintence factor. Just might be a change in ride.

The seller could be experiencing the same thing you are with your bike.

The thing about some older bikes that MAY have been parked for awhile is, they don't accumilate too much road rash and look pretty good for their age. But, they may have been parked for a mechanical reason and didn't have the $$$ to fix. Then they cheap out and fix it the cheapest way possible to dump it.

If they've kept it plated and licenced for the road and take it out occassionally or still ride it regular, I'd feel better about it.

Anyways, I'm too far west to help out man. Good luck. I'm sure someone will jump in to help out for a wobbly pop to two.

Cheers.

^ Thanks.

I do not mind looking at other bikes, but have not found many other interesting ones around my price point (1500-2500 max)

saw a sweet 94 cbr600F2 on kijiji the other day for 1300 bucks, pick that bad boy up

Don't worry about the chain drive too much. Really, about the worst you could expect is that the chain and sprockets need to be replaced, that's not too major (but would factor into your offer).

For that year of ZX-10 ... I would try to find out if the anti-dive on the forks still works, and watch out for any unusual noises. I would be very surprised if you couldn't find any signs of it being dropped, just make sure there's no major cracks (or any cracks in anything structural).
