Hello,

So I got hit today, I was making a left turn at a 4way stop and the older gentleman was doing a right so we both were going towards the same street. I reached the stop first so I made my turn, the gentleman roll through the stop. I realized he wasn't stopping so I tried to speed up and rang my horn, no luck the guy didn't hear me or bother to stop.

He hit me on the exhaust, I got pushed sideways and I think I high sided my bike, not sure to be honest, helmet is hit on the left but I have a soar right arm n wrist.

Based on visual assessment I need:

1) new exhaust, I just order one this morning
2) plastics front and back
3) new right mirror
4) new shift liver for my foot
5) left turn signal

My spools are vent but the frame and body of the bike look fine.

I have to bring my bike to a report center for the cops to review and sign the report.

But then what? My bike is 3 months old, 2012 I want to have it back on the road even with bad plastics but working properly ....

Should I go through insurance?

How does it work? Suggestions or possible options ?

Did you get the number of that chick in daisy dukes? You know, as a witness.

The cops wrote down 2 numbers of two witness, one really nice lady who came to check on me and make sure I was ok

Well then no question, you need to find a reason to bring this to court.

Oh man. Good to hear that you're alright. Bike can be repaired.
You should go through insurance since the guy was at fault.

If the witness saw he didn't stop go through ins because you wont be at fault and it wont raise your ins.. I got hit 3rd day on my bike and itching to get back on it. thanks to some friends fixing it hope to be riding by weekend.. Good luck and hope your ok

Glad to hear you're ok. Judging by the way you described the event you'll be fine through insurance and court, he clearly broke the law putting your life at risk and you have witnesses. Spare no expense on yourself and the bike, let them cover it all.

How was the collision written up by police? Was the other driver charged? If he was, then you should go through insurance. Be prepared for them to write the bike off because the threshold is pretty low, and they'll list every scratched part as requiring replacement. This will likely result in you taking a hit for a couple of thousand, based on 'depreciation' of a 3 month old bike.

Glad to hear that you aren't too hurt. Contact your insurance for sure. If it is clearly the other guy's fault they will take care of you - if they are any good at all. I can't imagine how you feel - but like many things it is important to "get back on the horse & ride." Plus, we need you back in the game ;-)

I don't think he'll take a hit of a couple thousand for a $4000 bike on depreciation.

Glad to hear you're alright, sucks to lose access to your bike when you're itching to ride

You could always ask them to cut you a cheque and repair it yourself if they are going to write it off. (same as what most people call buying your bike bike)

Where can you buy a 2012 bike for $4,000?

New 250R is 4800+tax. Most insurance for cars anyway has zero depreciation in the first year or two, so its whatever he paid for it I am guessing.

I would go through insurance, if the other guy was at fault for sure. Glad to hear you are ok!

Glad you're ok. Go through insurance so you don't get screwed.

Glad to hear your OK. I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Chalk this one up to a learning experience. Sometimes, even when its your right of way you got to let the idiots make their move first. It sucks and it doesn't feel right, but you avoid this b.s. soon your second sense for a.holes will kick in. Good luck.

^this -- Even though he (the cage driver) was in the wrong, had the rider braked and let the idiot cage go through, this might not have happened or would have happened at a slower speed (always remember if you accelerate to get around/away from something, you are adding more speed to the physics equation of what might happen).

To the OP -- As for the accident and insurance, did the police note that your bike was hit in the exhaust? To me, this would indicate that you were ahead of the car and were technically rear-ended, which should put the fault on the car and not the bike. Also aside from the bike, also consider/do replace your helmet, as they are one-time use only.

Glad the OP is OK, but always boggles me how some bikers still think like cagers. "I was right, I proceeded, I saw him not stopping, I still proceeded, now my bike is a toast, but I am right".

That's what I was thinking all the time after the incident, and it bothers me.. I should have stopped in the middle of the intersection, I have done it before. I assumed the guy saw me, I just assumed he was rolling in the intersection to go after I finished my turned. But no apparently I was not spotted at all, the old guy did not even have a clue from which direction I was coming from, he kept on saying that I hit him.

guess like many said, shake it up and move on :( .. I already miss her

The the cops charge him? Who ended up being "at-fault"?
