So frogg toggs suck..... Recomendations on rain gear?

So I got to work this morning wearing my frogg toggs suit which usually does a decent job in light rain but I was completely soaked right through.

Has anyone ever used the waterproof orange construction overalls on the highway? I have a pair at home but not sure how they will hold up......
 
Odd...my Toggs seems to hold up well, even in torrential downpours...
 
I've used a heavy duty yellow suit that worked wonders...the pants split on the *** but the top is still good. I use it in conjunction with my overpants now and the only issue are my feet. Total price of yellow suit....zero.

Today was the heaviest rain I've encountered with my new Icon Patrol suit. I bought the boots too. It was about 45 minutes total along Gardiner and King St.
I had a little bit of dampness in a couple of places. Crook of one elbow, and as always dreaded, crotch. It was nowhere near as bad as most other rainsuits I've had (and there have been many) or with my Joe Rocket Alter Ego (rain liner style of gear). The ICON stuff sheds the water with the outside layer, but it is breatheable. The reason for the little bit of dampness, I beleive, is because it was in spots where the fabric had folded in such a way that it trapped water, which eventually, ever so slightly, soaked through. In the arms this is avoidable. I had the straps pulled tight so the fabric was bunched up. As always, it's important to "adjust" your uhhh, "gear" when you're sitting. Make sure there are no upward folds (or tents) to trap the water in your lap. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the gear. I'm not sure how long it will last, I've only had it for two weeks. Boots are great - my feet were perfectly dry. I ride a CBR, so there isn't much protection from the rain anywhere, including feet.

yup odd... I used mine and have no problem.. was dry as always.. my biggest issue is keeping the pants down covering my boots but thats it.
 
I actually use a Colmubia rain jacket. Just one of those light ones, on top of my leathers... Its amazing how waterproof this jacket is. They always advertise how waterproof their gear is, and I believe it now on this item. Not sure how it would fare on the 401 in torrential downpour, but if it were raining that hard, I would avoid the 401 for the sake of Not being in an accident!
 
I used my third pair of Frog Togg pants this morning on the way to work, and was fine.

I find Toggs only last a few years before they need to be replaced, as the tyvek (or whatever the heck they're made off) gets a little beat up getting stuffed into/pulled out of storage when needed . My last set developed a pin hole in the right thigh, just above the knee, after three years of use.
 
I previously used the WetSkins suit I used for sailing, but it didn't breath, & I was always damp from sweating. I picked up some Revit rain gear from Riders Choice:

Along with overgloves & booties, they have kept me dry in medium rain at city speeds. They breath much better than the WetSkins. I haven't tried them yet in heavy downpours at highway speeds. For some reason, when they are with me, it doesn't rain much. Although don't hold me to that claim if you buy them and rain follows you around, Lol!
 
I used an old (I've had it for 10 years I think) Teknik rain suit. It's a 1 peice and it never leaks through unless I don't completely zip and velcro it closed. I've had the thing leak in the crotch area, but that was my own fault.

I had a red and blue one like that for several years. It was a great suit - I simply wore it out.
 
i use iCon jacket - very bright and stays dry but the key with them all is how well you seal them up around the front and neck.

and I like the hood on this - $110 from Revzilla

I had a one-piece Nexo rain suit (which I don't think you can even get anymore) and it worked pretty good for a few years ... until a month ago when I discovered it basically doesn't do anything anymore. Has a number of pinholes. Soooo I will be watching this thread as well. :P
 
I've got this suit - Oxford Roadpak 2-Piece Rainsuit

I bought it at GP Bikes for just under $100 with tax. Well worth the money. If my suit was damaged, I would buy the same one again.

I especially like that the collar comes up un your neck and higher in the back to keep water from getting in the top.

I've used this suit too many times to count, in light rain, in heavy rain for up to 3 hours straight. It has never leaked so much as a drop.

My only complaint is that although the outside pockets fold over in a way that's meant to keep water out, when you're riding in the wind they can open up slightly and let a little moisture in. Though this has only happened to my in torential down pours. So if you have anything important like a phone or a wallet, keep it in a pocket under the suit.

I bought a similar one piece suit from Velocity. I also had the same experience not completely zip and velcro it closed. I got it on a close out sale for $30. Works great.
 
I have tried different types of rain gear, from waterproof all in one jackets, 1 piece, 2 piece and finally Frogg Toggs. Frogg Toggs has held up better and never left me soaked or wet at all in any type of rain, from torrential downpour to the light misty rain. Maybe you have a tear somewhere in your suit.
 
I had a 2pc Rain Rider set for almost 20 years (bought it in 1987 for about $40) and they were fine for all that time. It went cross continent and across the country many times and used it a lot. When it finally gave up (not good for riding, but can still use it off the bike), I replaced it with many suits and none have held up more than a few years....or less. I had a a couple of 2 pc No name ones that actually worked for a year or so each, a Tecknic 1pc that held up less than a season, and 2 VCX (bought 2 at once) that didn't last more than a hand full of uses...literally less than 5 times each. Hmmm...I see a pattern there.

It seems to be leaking through the crotch, Like it seems to run down the gas tank and just pool there and leaks through.
I am guessing they just might be getting old as I have had them for 2 years and wear them quite a bit as the bike is my commuter, Looks like a new set is in order.
 
Frogg Toggs are not perfect, a pros and cons situation. They pack up compact and dry super fast. For the commuter they are the way to go if you don't have on bike storage.
