Smoked out by a diesel truck

Recently I had the unpleasant experience of being engulfed by smoke from the diesel truck ahead of me. The only thing I could do was pass them at excessive high speeds to escape the black smoke plumes of death. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? Luckily this has only happened to me once but the lack of respect from the owner of the truck was concerning.

You lost me at Diesel truck and having to pass at excessive high speed. Were you on a 125 ?.

I was riding a Ninja 250 and I passed them at 150 KM/h in an 80 zone (excessivley fast for me). He also was a fair bit ahead when the smoke started coming.

I do that to pass garbage trucks all the times as they are stinking, buses and just any trucks as well because of the debris they spit.

I always make sure to stay under 50 over tho. You never know.... You may wish next days/months if you could just go behind a diesel truck again LOL

That's what makes motorcycles so practical and fun!! Out in the..umm...fresh air...

I've had similar experiences with oil-burning gas engines.... it stinks. Your options are pass, slow down, or change lanes.

If it's a company truck, voice your concerns with the company. If they don't care, I'm sure there's an Ontario ministry that regulates that sort of thing.

I do that from time to time in the F350 but ONLY when a big group of cyclists are riding in a group (3 across and 10 or 12 deep) on country roads making it unsafe to pass. Then they get a smoke bath when the road straightens out enough for me to get around.

:lmao:

ahahahahaha...or turn your windshield washer nozzle sideways...i've had it happen with an 18-wheeler start off beside me from a light when i was a few cars behind, they pour on the power with a heavy load and droplets of oil come out, i thought it was friggin raining oil...as for heavy smokers, garbage trucks or trucks in general, get past them...anything that comes off of those suckers is like shrapnel...

I laugh every time i hear somebody say "don't let your car idle" or "second hand smoke is bad"
I'll lane split to get ahead of that truck.
Diesel is the worst crap to breathe, i can't take it, and i'm not a picky person.
I'm sure there's a VW passat that isn't as bad out there, but in general, anything pouring black smoke out the pipe is no good.
Makes me furious to think about the guy on a 2 stroke that got a ticket from the stupid pigs, total retards.

You did 150 in an 80 to get away from a vehicle that was a fair bit ahead of you. Am I missing some logic here?

So, slowing down or turning weren't viable options?

Wait until you get behind a pig truck.

I'm all about cycling, but seriously, some of those lycra-sniffers have no concept of road sharing....

This thread is a waste of internet space.........

Thats what I was thinking.... Exactly how fast was this truck going for you to almost double the speed limit to pass it? On a ninja 250, by the time you go from 80 to 120, you would probably be way ahead of the truck.
