Slow leak at rear tire bead

I had a new tire put on last fall and it’s had a slow leak since. Due to some other things going on in life I didn’t ride much after it was put on or I would have taken it back to the shop that put it on. Fast forward I sprayed some soapy water on it and there are a few spots along the bead that are leaking. I suspect the rim wasn’t cleaned well enough. Any suggestions on how this could be fixed without taking the tire off the rim?

Call them and explain the situation...don’t ask don’t get and your ask is reasonable.

I did consider that and plan to do so. I was just wondering if there might be an easy fix otherwise.

Not that I know of. It will be a hope and a prayer at best if you try to seal it from the outside (or make a hell of a mess if you use slime). Breaking the bead, cleaning and trying again is your best bet imo.

In my limited experience. Any issue with tires is only 100% solved by taking them off first.

Edit. Unless it’s just out of balance of course!

Ok thanks jc and gg. I kinda figured that was the case but thought it was worth asking.

Cheers

Is it safe to assume that you have ridden the bike for a while? I spooned a new tire on my bike last winter and it was leaking. I pumped it up and took it for a ride and since then it's been okay

Ya I rode it several times. I even hit around the tire a bit with a rubber mallet hoping it might set the bead in a little better (stupid possibly but worth the try). No dice.

Did you pump it up extra before doing that? The extra pressure might make it seat, then drop it to the right psi.

I did not but that makes sense so I’ll try it. Thanks for the suggestion

So with this warmer weather coming and heat making air expand , is anyone else considering drill breather holes into the sidewall of there tires? All that moist summer air needs to get out somehow.

Just put the valve stem in backwards to accomplish the same thing but get more stealth points.
