Sled Helmets

If you're sledding, what are you using for a sled helmet? Your motorcycle helmet or an actual snowmobile helmet? Tried on an FXR Maverick modular this weekend and it was so heavy compared to my motorcycle lids. I wish motorcycle helmet manufacturers would create and sell a heated visor option as it's the only reason people buy sled helmets.

I just use my bike lid. But I'm constantly moving the visor up and down. Down and foggy. Up clear and cold. No happy medium.

My preference is a MX style helmet with googles. Even with a good balaclava it can get pretty chilly on the lakes and other open areas though.

I have the Foggy Respros and use them, they do help.

The snowcross helmets are too cold for hours of trail riding I find. I see FXR makes heated goggles tho for people who go that way.

I wish the motorcycle helmet manufacturers would at least make a heated visor. I know HJC makes both motorcycle and sled helmets...why couldn't they just make a heated visor for your motorcycle helmet?

Anyone have a BRP lid? They look kind of strange and fit even stranger.

Gmax makes a bunch of snow/street helmets and accessories -some double lens and heated shields.
Most are only DOT but they some that are ECE approved as well.
I have 2 - an ADV and a modular, they're not anything special but if they get you through the cold weather why not ?

They're so cheap...I wouldn't trust them in a crash. A lot of snowmobile accidents are head vs a tree. Add cold weather to the helmet material...it will be brittle and thus more willing to fail. So I use my higher end motorcycle helmets. I will report back if I find a what I'm looking for. Scorpion EXO-AT950 is a good choice...they make a snow version with heated visor and breath deflector but Scorpion helmets don't fit my head shape. The search continues...

Price and crash performance are barely correlated for motorcycle helmets. Money buys you style, quiet and lighter. I have no idea if snowmobile helmets are tested frozen or warm. Are there separate standards for snow helmets or are they just using motorcycle standards? I looked quickly and didn't come up with anything snow specific. I agree, a frozen plastic shell into a tree would be bad.

There is no specific 'snow' standard, just DOT, ECE and maybe Snell.
What you DO usually get in a sled helmet is some kind of breath guard, chin curtain and double lens or electric face shield.
