I don't think I started off badly, just asked if he had paperwork and the status of the bike as he didn't really have a good description.

Lessons learned.

You can't loligag when buying on any marketplace -- if you are looking for a deal, have your cash ready and your car warmed up. That 50 minute trip that worried you is part of the hunt -- no MC deal is riding up to your door in the middle of winter.

Do you homework beforehand so you know values for the bike you are seeking. That model, mileage, and year normally sells between $2750 and $4000 -- anything below $2500 is a deal. If you find them below $2500 the seller is either desperate or the bike needs a bunch of work - the only way to figure that out is to inspect the bike in person.

you won't find a better condition cruiser for $2,500
it's in secure, indoor storage until April, can't get it out until then - snow

I still don't like cruisers for me, but I like that one a lot more than a Vstar 650. Seems like a good deal.

Most midweight cruisers are great beginner bikes. I bought an Suzuki S40 (for the wife) and an M80 for me a few years back, I rode just about everything in the category before buying and there wasn't much difference between them. No midweight cruiser delivers thrilling performance. The S40 single thumper was faster and handled better than the S80, Vulcan, Vstar, 883 and Shadow -- I preferred riding it over the M50 for fun, the only problem was it had the factory pink/cream paint job.

2,000 km in 2 seasons tells the story
threw a leg over it once last year

low seat height is the only thing it has over the Capo
the smiles per miles factor is not worthy of any debate

don't need to sell and insurance is cheap
but it's a waste to have sitting around

if you like it, show seller an envelope with 15 x $100 bills in it
talk is cheap, I bet you he won't resist those 100 dollar bills

Please tell me you're not the guy 15 years ago who showed up at my house to buy R6 fairings and flashed 15 x $100 bills at me while saying that you were leaving for Hungary the next day and that was the max the ATM would allow you to take out... even after we confirmed $1800 on the phone before meeting?

I was 19 but still knew enough to reject that lame play. Sold them a month later for $2200.

Even if you're not the guy, please lose this approach... it's disrespectful and tacky. Thanks.

Well they didn't 15 years ago, they do now. You can choose whatever combination of bills you want at any modern updated bank machine. Great for those after hours bike purchases. I remember showing up with 6k in 20's years ago. Guy wasn't happy about counting it.

OP, don't forget to flash 15 x $100 bills, or at least significantly less than $2500 in $100 bills in the sellers face. He's confirmed that it works so he'll take it. Surely he's not a hypocrite.

There should be no offence from the ask. You never know what you get until you ask. I think a lot of us are afraid to just ask. And when I'm saying ask, i do me politely. Not pushy. It's the pushy part that can be offensive.

Thank you for the offer. Its 800 so my insurance will have a small jump. But how will the power differ?
I don't care for highway riding. My general commute to and from work does not use any of the highways.

can't really comment on the power difference from a 650
it's the only cruiser I've ridden
bike does fine on 400 series highways, 120 without any grief
but it really is a secondary highway bike, seems at home going 90
engine spins along at a comfortable RPM and everything seems happy at that speed

Agreeing to a price beforehand and showing up with less is very different from doing the negotiation in cash in person.
