Shopping list for 2013 track season

Hey What do you guys think of the Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa pro tires? thinking of these for my trackdays.

bought some tie down anchors to install on the new trailer.....

any recommendations on reasonably priced wheel chocks? princess auto has the one for $80'ish right now.
Wait for the sale, those blue ones go on sale for 40 bucks, but you have to get there fast

I work in Toronto, so not much luck in getting there fast in the event of a sale lol - regular price for those is $50 so I don't really care for the sale. Just need stock :S

Looking for noise canceling headphones for my baby hes going to be about 2 and half months old when I go for the first track day on june 17th.

Any suggestions.?

don't take a 2 1/2 month old to the race track?

just saying, I wouldn't risk damaging his hearing. it isn't just the ears, he'll be feeling those vibrations all throughout his body. leave him home, or ditch the track.

They have a location in Scarborough I think, mcowan and 401? Not 100% sure though.

When it was shooting day for the kids at our gun range they used to cut those foam squishy earplugs so they'd fit in their little ear canals. They were also able to order some infant sized electronic earmuffs. I think either could be an option.

Anybody have any experience with Impact canopies from Costco?
There's one going for $100 and looks decent... Thoughts?

Probably similar quality, but I'll throw it in here: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brow...han+Portable+Gazebo,+10+x+10-ft.jsp?locale=en

It goes on sale often. I have it, and lasted just fine during a camping day (it was pretty windy too), and also one track day. Both times I opened it up and closed it by myself with no extra hands. Just an option to consider too.

EDIT: BTW, don't know if you've noticed, but the link you posted is just for the mesh. The canopy is not included.

you can reserve a blue chock by calling them...that's what i did last time.

But, I can't seem to locate it on the website, have they discontinued them?

I'll just keep an eye on the site, thanks. don't really want the pingel/simple bar type or an overpriced Baxley

I have the Pit Bull system in my trailer but carry a Pingel chock, straps and canyon dancer just in case I ever need to move another bike. The Pingel type chock works great to be honest and the mounts are virtually flush to the floor.

Bringing up an old agenda (January 2013) from this thread in case anybody would be interested:

My OEM front rotors are still good at about 6mm thickness and don't seem warped.. I want to convert them to full-floaters, and apparently I've got two options:

1) manually remove washers from the inside side of the rivets.

2) purchase special full-floating buttons to replace the stock ones, which is 2 rotors x 8 buttons x $6 = about 100 bucks.

Option 1) is free. Anyone know if 2) is worth it?!

And supposedly the brake fading will be minimized.

EDIT: Here's where they sell them with tech info and even a video, but can be had for less from bluestreak, although not on their site: http://motowheels.com/i-7579497-corse-dynamics-full-floating-rotor-button.html

EDIT 2: And a video comparing the drag after modification: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jJPCy2AsULo

I'm gonna answer my own question for the benefit of anyone who might ever decide to do this.

Most semi-floating rotors have washers on the inside side (towards the inside of the bike) of the rivets that connect the carrier to the rotor. Regardless of bike model, rotors model, etc.., removing those washers will free-up just enough space to allow some lateral movement of the rotor on the carrier. The actual removal of the washers is supposed to be a pretty easy task---a chisel or a sharp flat headed screwdriver will do the job. Apparently, this way the rivets are not weakened at all to compromise safety (as opposed to pushing/extending the rivet in a vise, which is an alternative free method).

I've read a lot of opinions and experiences by other people, including racers, who are much delighted with the results. The only drawback seems to be the clunking noise from the rotors at low speed, which many people describe as the sound as if your bike is going to fall apart, hence drawing negative and suspicious attention. Obviously, this effect is not desirable for the street with the many bumps on the roads and Timmie bike posers around, but perfectly fine for the track IMHO.

Cheers

I wonder too. The fully floating part is likely not the only reason though. As for pad drag (the apples to oranges video you posted earlier), that's a definite benefit, but I'd be extremely surprised to going from semi to full floating, with no other changes, will make your wheel spin 100% free like his. I'll be removing my anti squeal clips from my pads before this season to decrease pad drag. I'd imagine that him wiggling is rotors before spinning the wheel would have widened the pads slightly, helping his demonstration. Call me a skeptic, but there has to be something else going on there to decrease the drag that much. A friend of mine had an ex-CSBK Pro 600 bike with fully floating rotors and the front wheel didn't spin as easy as in that video.

I don't know, these people here (http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104257&highlight=floating) and here (http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215464) all reported that converting the rotors made their wheels spin free. I've also read a few other forum threads on other sites saying the same. Currently, giving a good tug on my front gets me at about 1 to 1 1/2 revolutions (mind you my calipers are very much due for cleaning). I'll make a video before/after soon when I get to do this, but I anticipate success.

I would love to see that. If you do a before and after make sure you only change one thing, the rotors. Please leave the rest as apples to apples. Either clean your calipers before or after the before/after video session.

Well, I still haven't done it, but I will today or tomorrow.

Worth mentioning: after upgrading my braking system by installing steel lines, accossatto master, Motul RBF660 brake fluid, and new Ferodo XRAC racing pads + deglazing the rotors + completely rebuilding both calipers + bleeding multiple times & zip-tie overnight & bleeding again to be sure, I'm very satisfied with the performance of the brakes. However, there is enormous drag, especially after comming into the pits after a track session when the brakes are hot: the strongest tug I can do to the wheel with my hand or foot barely spins it one rotation.

So I'm gonna be the ginny pig and do the mod, and as promised I'll make a before/after video and post here so the outcome serve anyone in the future who may wonder if they should do this.
