Shop for old bikes

Im looking to have my 1974 cb550 top end rebuilt. Im wondering if anyone knows a shop that knows how to work on these vintage bikes.

I will supply all the oem parts for the rebuilt to ensure no aftermarket/bad quality parts are used.

Try Junior at TO Cycle out in Etobicoke.

What do you mean "top end rebuilt"?
Hone/bore, pistons and rings?
Valve job?
Don't have one, need a new one?
Your timing is bad, the local expert of that bike is in the process of moving to PEI.

Oh geez why would they want to move to PEI :'(

I need to replace the rings and ofc hopefully just hone the walls.

Would machine shop accept my cylinder head If i just bring it to them to get resurfaced and also to replace my valve stem seal #1/27/28?

Mike at clarington cycle. If they can't do it they will know someone who can.

If you're going to plane the head, you're going to dis-assemble it.
If you're talented enough to get that head off and back on and the bike running, you can change the valve seals (if those seals are typical Honda seals, I would use Yamaha seals when I put it back together)... and once you have it apart replace all the seals (they dry out with time and your valve gasket kit will have 8 seals) and do a valve job. I would also replace the cam chain.

Any monkey with a hone that knows what they're doing can hone the cylinders but I like them done on a Sunnen hone.
Any (car) engine shop can plane the head and hone the cylinders. I'm in the west end and I know Gord Bush (he will be EXTREMELY busy, but if you are going to continue screwing around with motors Gordie is someone you WANT to know), Cooksville Engines (try to talk to Dad if he's still around), Active Engines.
If you're looking for someone to do the labour, again in the west end, I would go talk to Bent bikes (this is a time limited recommendation but Stevie Lewis is working out of Bent these days) or in the east end there is Willie at Wasp (he has built some killer baby superbikes).

I have my crank and jugs in with Gord at Bush Racing. He told me a minimum of 4 weeks back log before he even looks at my stuff.

That's what happens when you're good and in demand.

Too late now but Roger at WickedATV will sell you a NEW crank for less than Gordie will charge you to rebuild yours.
Are you going with upgraded bearings? New labyrinth?

I got a ton of RZ stuff.

Us smart guys are talking to Gordie now about next year.

Let me try and do a leakdown test to see where the leak is coming from. This way I can skip removing pieces i can skip on.

I'll give them a call after a leakdown test

I'm trying to keep my money local. There have been some horror stories about Roger and crappy workmanship. I can't speak first hand. He's always trying to push the +4mm stroker kit and I just wanted to stick with stock stroke.

I was out of work for almost a year, so I wasn't about to commit to Gord without having the cash. The day I signed my offer letter, I trucked my parts off to Gord. If I had had a job earlier, he would have had my parts last fall and my engine would be done by now.

No new labyrinth seal. Can be re-used without issue. I kept with the stock bearings, didn't upgrade to the TZ ones. I'll do that on my spare engine. I have plans for a 421 Athena down the road.
