Shell Gas Station Policy

Did not read the whole thread. Just a few bits and pieces.
Usually pay at the pump. Have a modular helmet. If I need to pay inside I open the helmet, lift the visor. Never ever had a problem. Shell only for me.
Plus I never talk to a Lady with my helmet on or if I have a baseball cap on always remove it as a sigh of respect.
When I remove my helmet that is when it gets funny. Quick 100 metre dash. Lol. English accent goes a long way. OK Mate? or is it Mate`es?

"Mate'es" if you're a pirate ;-)

Man, 2004? That video looks like 1994. We are getting OLD. Too blurry to see properly, but it looks like the lady pops back into the cab to spark up. Maybe some ash drifted into the fumes, or an extinguished lighter/match was still in her hands. Gasoline fumes are super volatile, as any child playing with gasoline quickly discovers.

56 sec mark. She uses both hands to pull down her shirt just before touching the handle. Probably went in the car to check her hair cuz pumping gas, you gots to look your best. This could have all been avoided if they had let her wear a helmet.

I've never been asked to take my helmet off in almost 30 years of riding. But I wore it the other day while I was using the edge trimmer on my grass because flying rocks.

Wow... a use for my old helmets.....

I don't take my helmet off if only stopping for a short time...like going into Shoppers to get a bag of milk or paying for gas/getting a receipt cause the pump printer was out.

Just a follow up to my last post. #80.

Was in my favourite Shell Station. Super V Power. ($1.09) Highway 10. North of Orangeville. Approx. 10 kms. L.H. side.

Paid at the pump, had to go inside for receipt. They where as nice as pie. Polite. Lifted Modular and raised the sunshield.

What are the odds that you are their favourite customer? I mean, why not?

I use the shell station on South Sheridan way in Port Credit all the time and I've never been told to take my helmet off

Shell is always overpriced for premium anyways. They're 20c higher for 91 vs 87. I fuel up at Ultramar and it's 12c more for premium over regular and ethanol free (-3c discount on premium on Thursdays as well).

I am well aware of the difference between a Burka and a Hijab. I used the term "head wear' in a generic sense. But it is obvious you missed the entire point, The Hijab and Burka are both protected under religious freedom sections of the Charter, a Helmet is not. Hence they can ask that you remove your helmet, whereas they can not ask a person to remove a Burka or Hijab. Just as a person, (which I don't agree with may wear a Burka when being photographed for the drivers licence, you can not wear a helmet).

Which is why the OP making mention of the woman not being asked to remove her Burka, is not applicable, one is protected under law the other isn't. A shop owner can refuse to provide you service if your wearing a helmet, they can not refuse someone wearing a Burka, (without a media crap storm and even a visit from a human rights investigator)..lol

In the end as I said to the OP, it their choice to remove the helmet or give his business to a station without the policy. In the end it takes all of perhaps 2 minutes to remove and put the helmet back on, for me not a huge stumbling block.
Since when has a burka been deemed a religious garmment? The burka is not used as a religious statement in any way. It is used as a form of oppression towards women. It has nothing to do with religion. It's just our pansy ass government is too afraid to offend a certain sect of Muslims, because God forbid Canada to tell people who wish to live here to act like civilized people and join the 21st century.

Now if I must go inside to interact with people my helmet comes off, but if I'm going to use the atm or check my lotto ticket at the scanner then I leave it on.

I stopped at a Shell gas station today...Thickson and Taunton in Whitby.
After fueling my bike I went in to pay and was told by middle eastern woman that I MUST remove my helmet before coming in.
I asked why and was told it is a security risk.
My face needs to be identifiable for security cameras. Even though they have my bike and license plate on video.
I did not remove my helmet, paid and left.
While I was getting back on my bike I witness a Muslim woman with a birka get gas and go to pay without removing the birka.
I contacted Shell head office and was told this is a policy.
Interested to hear your thoughts on this?
Great post...
Stand by, our new Prime Minister will have you standing at the human rights tribunal just for making that call to their head office.

Good point. However, I don`t think they know me from a hole in the ground. They seem polite to everybody. Good Karma, or something like that.
Plus as an added bonus their gas is cheaper than anywhere else.

I need to go there. Most of the stations that I go to, the service is terrible. I won't go into details, but I avoid going back when the service is bad. I use 2 stations regularly, great, friendly service.
