Im getting ready to store my bike in my shed which is cold, damp and full of rat mouse crap. Im a little reluctant to do it but at least its shelterd. Any tips or tricks I should know, Im going to take the seat off and remove the airfilter and tape up the carb. I have a bike cover but not sure if its nessesary. The mice are what Im realy concerned about.

Put a rag in the exhaust to stop them nesting there.

I think a bike cover would only encourage them to nest under there.

tape up exhaust, raise the bike or put it up on paddock stands, take the battery out, drain out float bowls, coat cylinders with a squirt of oil, cover the motorcycle

and get grandma's cat to watch out for mice and/or squirrels

Oooo interesting, I will do that for sure. I like the peppermint oil idea too.
Thanks Guys

I like the circle of wilsarin (or warfarin) around the bike. They have a snack on the way to eat your bike and your bike survives the winter.

Mice need 3 things.Food, shelter and water.Take anything out of the shed that they could eat.Grass seed, bird seed etc. They will find shelter by chewing up anything they can.Garden gloves, rope, tarps etc etc.Water is a bit tougher.A garden hose left in there will be a source for a long time.Cap the end of it tightly. If your shed is close to a low lying drainage area, fill it with gravel.
In short...clean your shed! Mice breed at a fantastic rate.Traps and poison will only work for a while. But they aren't a bad idea.

I would NOT store my bike in a mouse infested shed. Seen too many wiring harnesses eaten through. Had a friend who had to sell her bike when she gave up on the rewire......

Listen to wingboy at the very least but I think its a bad idea. I have an old house and very diligent about the feckers but still get em trying to come in every year. Very hard to get rid of the damned things once they establish.

Poison. Eat it and bring back to nest to feed the babies. Bromone is the poison you want. Canadian tire

Critter Ridder spray or just a lot of cayenne pepper all around will help.

why take a chance with mice eating your wires ?

store it outside. unless its heated, the only thing its going to prevent is some snow or ice.

not a big deal. ( block the pipes, no matter where you put it )

My Buddy had his 71 Cutlass Convertable stored in a 53ft Container on his property, racoons got in through the floor.Needless to say ever seen a grown man cry. Thats why im not sure what to do. The mice are a constant problem in my shed, so maybe outside would be best.

Just curious, wouldn't the mice just take the rag and use it for bedding? From what I've been told, they can/will eat or chew anything except metal. So if thats true, I think steel wool would be better than a rag.

For $200-$300 there are plenty of vendors on this site that will store your bike in a non infested place.

Why take a chance?

Oh and another one for the old wives tales for mice is cinnamon powder.

Just to add to that .. Original Irish Spring Soap bars cut up into pieces works as well.

Damn at least give them some Dove to moisturize while they die.

Steel wool isn't going to prevent moisture from creeping into your exhaust.
